What about the gravity drill having a small build menu? With various upgrades? Like

700,000/700,000 1000 E Allied ships moved at only 1/2 their normals speed instead of flat 8.
380,000/380,000 1000 E Allied ships may teleport in this system regardless of other effects.
20,000/20,000 5000 E High Priority Speed Debuffer which halves all speed reducing effects within it's range. (Including non Grav Drill effects)

This would give you various options with dealing with Grav Drills and make facing a Grav Drill opponent slightly more tolerable to play.

Frankly, I don't have much problem with them as they are now, I'm already a staunch fan of warp gates to begin with. But for people with different playstyles or the situations that occur that make them irritating to play I wouldn't mind this. It'd give me something to do with the extra resources.
Options are deadly.... :O :O :O

For the next version:

* Gravity Drills under player control can now be scrapped by that player.

Having the choice is nice, but I plan to try to use gravity drills as choke points and fortified systems to grind AI waves with whenever I can. :3

I like how they are, but I'm going to parrot the suggestion to allow Zenith Traders build Gravity Drills, maybe with a ship cap of 1

That would be extremely, extremely OP.  Just plunk it down on your major bottleneck and you've suddenly got an incredible stronghold.  This is easy to do since the trader is most likely to pass through your bottlenecks, so that's somewhat self-defeating.  As it stands with the drills that are seeded randomly, you might be able to use it to good effect but it's not that likely to be in a key bottleneck.
