1 hybrid, alone, came in and exploded. That was it. I think they might need a buff, at least on this difficulty. Then again, It's only Regular Hybrids, so that might be it. Also, I had just opened a Mk. III Zenith Reserve and smashed up some hybrid facilities.

EDIT: The hybrids are really acting oddly. They run into my system, fire off a volley at the nearby turrets, then chicken out and run back. They don't have subfleets or anything. It's really wierd.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

It may be a problem with them not knowing how to handle the small galaxy.

They look pretty embarrassed, I may have to teach them something new.

Ahem!!!

I read both of those, and they were glorious.  I remembered hearing about them a while back, but I never saw the threads before.  Kind of makes me want to go try it myself, or at least load up some of those saves and play around with them, because I found an old install of 3.120 on one of my computers earlier this summer, but it doesn't have the expansion with it, I forget how half the stuff in the game worked back then, and I have other things to do right now.

Well my 10/10 is over. They killed me quite literally.. By beating my computer itself to death with silly massive waves/numbers of ships doing stuff that it finally just chugged down. :(

What size waves?  It's supposed to stuff extras over a certain amount (1000 on normal caps, I believe) into carriers that are much easier on the cpu.  And what kinds of stuff were the other ships doing?

Just asking because we made a number of changes a while ago to make it a lot less likely that the game would just bludgeon your cpu to death by brute force ;)

this is why I play on low caps in large games. No slowmotion during large battles and I actually know what's going on instead of loads of ships just shooting at eachother.

Was a combination of things. There was more then one human home world, I had also aggravated a fair number of threat ships just waiting to cause mischief, that I couldn't clean out and live. They by themselves couldn't attack and live for more then a moment so just stalked me. Then the 9k+ attack wave.. on low ship count came. They had several thousand housing carriers when they arrived. That proceeded to pop quite quickly one after another until there were three I saw alive with some sort of shield. I don't know what ship of mine that was mincing them over the other ships as I had a 2k+ fleet and numberless amount of turrets/mines/shields... Yeah imagine 9 players building a giant brick wall of death. That is what I had vs a giant blob of pain. My computer was not pleased. Also one of said carriers ignored force fields stopping transit through a wormhole and arrived on my home world. :(

So lots of the carriers were destroyed before the existing "free floating" fleet ships were destroyed and thus tons of fleet ships?

Yea, carriers are immune to forcefields, which makes them immune to the wormhole-cap rule; it's one of the ways the AI can punch through a major chokepoint if said chokepoint doesn't have enough firepower to stop the attack.  Carriers are not immune to grav turrets, though.

Yeah to the tons of fleet ships. The carrier was a invincible one though. So no way of actually stoping it before it walked through my shield.. And dropped a thousand new hostiles by my front door. But the 30 some forcefields I had over that home station kept it going. Everything else was in massive brawl on the choke-point world. Until I had to give up the game.  :-\

Am I only one that considers this nasty cheating? ;)

Normally that ships wouldn't be able to cross that gap but because of carrier performance boosts they can :D

(Not that I ever seen any carriers... they don't come in exos)

I'm starting a 10/10 fallen spire game on a 120-planet map (vanilla/the tank ais, bonus ship gravity drain, HYBRIDS ON oh man I will wipe repeatedly on the first defensive mobilization guaranteed) in honor of this topic.

[edit] oh, so the ais start on mark ii.  uh... awesome?
[edit 2] and they get two waves each?  i give!
