Hey! hey hey hey hey! In my book, it is only illegitimate if you cheat. Setting options that have been provided is just gaming the system...considering a 10/10 ai is about as much gaming as the ai can get, it only seems natural.
This is the sound of rationalization ;)

You're right, this is too easy. After I beat this one I'll try it with an AI that can launch waves. Of course, I haven't gotten to a Raid Engine yet, so we'll see. :P
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Yeah I have tried a variety of 10/10s. Currently doing a shield ninny/vanilla on a maze map. Oh it hurts. Fun and painfull.. But quite a challenge when you let one of the ais punch back. Never really thought about the spire civilians making that first wave impossible :'(. I always play with them on. Might explain why I die so hard sometimes to that first salvo.

 Ahem!!!

v3:
http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,6100.0.html
http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,7280.0.html

I also had a v4 maximum hybrid game but i started with ~5 planets in a dead-end so it was sorta cheaty since they could never break through that chokepoint and as such it was only a question of time.

As of v5 i found another strat that allowed me to make it to the mid game but i couldnt find the time or patience to complete it, so i restarted and stomped some lv9s instead. Basically, there is presently a flaw in the ai blobbing on their side of the wormhole. It only works if the players build their bases on human/neutral side of wormholes and not the ai side. When checking the firepower thing it looks like the ai only checks human or neutral planets, so building a super massive base on the ai side of the chokepoints means most ai ships trickle in to their death, and the big issue of the larger packs of ships can be dealt with by putting huge numbers of turrets under a horde of shield bearers.

So if you want to get your double godmode legitimately before they patch out this ai weakness, take an x map, turn off all options except waves as cpa, pick a planet in a dead end and use shield bearers, keep a single chokepoint but build on the ai side of it while covering the wormhole with forcefields and the turrets with shield bearers, unlock  turrets shield bearers forcefields cloakers and raid ships, and make suicide raids+stealth+transports into the ai reducing things as soon as possible.

Still gonna take a while considering how quick the numbers ramp up at lv10, but maybe... it works!

Ahem!!!
Ah yes, the moment I saw your name I remembered "oh yea, there _was_ one that did it...".  And against two technologist AIs, to boot, iirc.  You may hold the title of the most insane person I've ever met ;)

Aw, Monkeys, I gave myself a positive resource handicap on my 10/10 game. Now I have to start over. At least I can make it a little harder now, maybe if I enable Hard Golems and some other stuff.

Anything with exowaves on diff 10 should be pretty certain death; exo budgets are multiplied by 3 on diff 10.

Hmm...

Current game settings: 30 planet snake map
Two Diff 10 Support Corps AIs

Minor Factions: Neinzul Rocketry Corps, Human Resistance, Dyson Sphere
AI Plots: Hybrid Hives

Does this sound suitably challenging yet still remotely doable?

EDIT: My bonus ship is the Zenith Mirror, since I've wanted to try that.

If you can even survive the first hybrid attack on diff 10 I want a video ;)

Well, the RNG isn't liking me today. My home planet is at one end of the snake, and two jumps away is a mk. IV planet with a raid engine. Fun.

If it was the RNG, it probably named one of those planets "GG" too.

Raid Engine is down! I sent in a clump of lightning warheads and blew it up. It managed to get a wave off, but some EMPs and other warheads should take care of that. Haven't gotten any hybrids yet, but it'll be interesting.

Umm...Double post, but I survived the first Hybrid attack on Diff 10. It lasted 3 seconds.

I have a video if you really want it.

I checked, I am playing on 10/10.

What exactly happened?  Like 3 or 4 hybrids charging blindly in?

Actually, on second thought, if you only have 30 planets, they really wouldn't have much in the way of numbers.  Hmm.  May have to fix that some day ;)
