Victoria is sold only by GamersGate.

What is their DRM, etc.? Anyone have any impressions on them? I imagine X has some from the vendor perspective rather than the customer perspective...

GamersGate is really cool, actually.  I had never heard of them before looking for distribution channels, but they are pretty huge in Europe.  Their stance on DRM is basically the same as Impulse -- whatever the publisher wants.  So if there is DRM, it is not their fault, but the publisher.  They don't have a client like Impulse, just a little downloader that distributes the setup installer, so it's a pretty simple system from that end.

They also have a customer reviews system, including literal written reviews and a star ranking system, which I think is pretty cool.  My main complaint is how visually "busy" some of their site can be, but part of that is just how much content they have on there.  It's a good system, and I definitely recommend them -- there's no reason to shy away for DRM purposes, unless the publisher themselves are causing it.

I have no complaints whatsoever with GamersGate. I rank it above Steam (but I recognise that Steam sells games to the really big mass-market and that its occasional performance problems stem from that) but below Impulse.

The DRM on Vicky/Ricky is either non-existent or non-intrusive. The fact that I don't know proves that it is very non-intrusive if it is there.

If you are thinking about purchasing Victoria, don't. Paradox just announced Victoria II.

The post about Victoria II:

I don't see why I shouldn't purchase a 2003 game (Victoria I) if it's good... I also have learned that game announcements lead to disappointments because they almost never ship on time.

You are right on all counts.

They will definitely be late. The first version will need a lot of patching and community help before it works really well (like another game I could mention).

And Vicky I is a masterpiece so certainly worth buying. But probably II will be better, and there are only so many years in a life.
