Flare beacon in chat
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:23:18 pm »
It's hard to find those flare beacons.  How about, when a flare is put down, a chat message is posted with a clickable link?  This way players can find where their allies are pointing to very quickly and easily.  And can continue to do so for as long as the beacon remains in the chat history.

Given the often players want to "draw" with flares, that is going to overwhelm the chat pretty quickly.  As with most RTS games, however, we have a "go to last flare" hotkey.  Simply hitting Tilde (~) takes you directly to the location of the last flare, which serves the same purpose as the clickable link.

Indeed, even if I'm playing single or chatting on vent with others, I tend to draw smileys (or obscenities for the AI to ponder upon, especially in single player) with the flares. A chat link would be just overkill. The tilde works quite enough, and even if you miss, you can ask for a re-flare, with your hand ready on the tilde.

I cannot say I've witnessed this drawing phenomenon.  But I am discovering new keyboard shortcuts in this game all the time!

Usually I use it to draw lines or curves, indicating proposed angles of attack, etc.  Can be quite useful, aside from the more whimsical fun things to draw that Kordy notes. :)
