I do miss that little display at the bottom right.
And when are we going to get the graphs in the stats window back?

The mini-map, eh, don't really care either way.
Though, if screen "real-estate" space is important, why not make it optional? That way, a user can choose whether that extra space is worth it to them. Even if they turn it off, the "overlay" map is still there (and presumably, would be there as well even if the corner mini-map was on).
Not sure if it should be on by default or not; depends on how most new players feel about it I guess.

Also, I forgot how cool that old font looked...

I very rarely use the minimap. Anything I need to see I can see in max zoom.

Also, regarding the mission, I had a dream that I finally beat this mission last night.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

That's not a UI mod, that's how the UI used to look before we switched AIW from our custom .NET/SlimDX engine to Unity :)

Clearly then you have failed to deliver the best game possible. Superweapons will now be deployed against Arcen offices under orders to search and destroy. Beings of Arcen Games, you  can make this process smoother, and less destructive, by surrendering Keith to his well deserved obliteration. Have a nice day.

Sincerely,

I think you're forgetting who it is that pulls the strings of a few particularly nasty AI ships...

I see a cloud of Shield Bearers, Blade Spawners, Tackle Drone Launchers, and Neinzul Scapegoats on the horizon.  A lot of them.  With H/K support.  I think I will hide now...
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.

If you can see them, isn't it already too late to hide, unless you can reach one of the backwater nebulae in time?

Seems like quite a few nebula missions have issues with actually being fun. I've never encountered the RS (haven't done that many nebulas) but getting the colony bombs or an early three way FFA is also very unfun (because almost non-interactive).

the three way ffa one in particular has great issue actually resolving, sometimes.

Back to the original topic, I beat the Ravenous Shadow with a Spire Cruiser with two shields and the rest plasma seige cannons or polarisers, all Mark IV.  I didn't lose any starbases and saved plenty of enclaves.

Two shields seemed about optimal - they frequently took hits, but comfortably repaired in time for the next hits.

I found that when the RS sends a volley at an enclave, if you protect the enclave with projected shields, the RS will become stationary until the enclave is either destroyed or out of range.  I used this behavior to maximise the damage done by my photon lance.  Using the shields also let the allied ships live longer, as the RS kept wasting shots against the shields.

Timing and placing the shields optimally, as well as trying to predict the RS's behavior, kept this scenario interesting for me.  I don't agree that this scenario is overly simple or boring.

you completed the mission using one of two incredibly optimal setups, in a cruiser.

I mean no offense when I say that the gear check came late for you, and you passed.

Iv eencountered this as a destroyer, on really early (3rd/4th missions) in campaigns. Its a lot harder to pass the gear check then.

I was suggesting a strategy and disputing that it was simplistic, not that it scales poorly  :)

I've only encountered it once.
