Definite Flagship related slowdown
« on: January 24, 2010, 03:21:26 pm »
Really easy to test this one.  I have 12 flagships in a big cluster of about 2000 ships.  So each ship has at least 5 lines drawn to it.  All I have to do is move those flagships in and out of the ship to change the speed of the game considerably.

At first I thought this was some Dyson Gatling related slowdown, but it turns out the hostile Gatlings killed some of my flagships, which in turned sped up the game.

Is this version 3.0 or 3.016?

I was under the impression that the munitions boosting lines had been entirely removed, but I see that they're back in 3.016. Turns out there's now a settings option for this, so if you'd like, you can disable the lines and get a pretty decent performance boost. The setting is in the Special Effects section of the Graphics tab in the Settings menu. Without the lines, you can still use tooltips or ship hue (when not in icon mode) to see whether a ship is getting boosted.

Does that help?

Yes, turning off that option in 3.016 is the solution to this.  Some players wanted the lines back, and in general the lines don't cause any slowdown until you have a really huge ton of them all at once, so we made this an option so that people who were experiencing slowdowns could then turn that off.  Sounds like that's what you should do here, Mylon.  Thanks for the report!
