just keep the golems paused whenever you don't use them. A bit micro-managy maybe but it saves you a lot of money.
So it's back to my point - why mechanic like this?
I either have golem or I don't. Currently I have it but need to micro it or it will eat up my resources.
I simply stay away from them since their power doesn't re-compensate required micro and costs.

There is no vote option for me.
I simply dislike golems from one very simple reason - their simulated cost by constant self damage.
This whole mechanic is silly for me - if I reconstruct it for hefty sum... I won't do Minmatar job on it. Since assumption is that we can reconstruct them we either do it properly (so it won't fall all over the places from running) or not do it all.

I'vs proposed in the past to make it such that golems self damage by firing instead of merely being on. This would still give the same effect (using it costs resources), but cut out the micro.
[mantis link to come later]

It got a mixed reception though.

If I could pick 3 I would pick in the order: Artillery golem, hive golem, and finally regen golem.

I like artillery because it can really hurt almost anything AI can throw at you. Just watch out for double artillery golem exo-wave galactic!

I like hive and regen because they are great force multiplier giving you more bang for your M/C value.

I picked the Botnet. There is nothing as hilarious as watching a wave or a CPA come in and in moments be turned into my personal defense fleet. Cover the golem with a few shielded units, (Shield Bearers are great for this) and back it up with a MSD, or even better a full cap of them, and watch it tear apart nearly anything that isnt a Core/Home World or an Exo fleet. Even better if you get lucky and get speed booster fabs. Then even its low speed isnt an issue in the slightest. Back when they could still be reclaimed it was funny as hell when the AI rolled Z-Medics. Whats that? Zombies that keep my other Zombies to full HP? I LOVE IT. (I know WHY it had to change, but I really do miss it.)

Hive Golem. It was my first, and it will always be my favourite.

Hell, I just took 40 AIP to get me one. Do NOT regret it 8)

One problem I still have with Golem is that they are made of paper.

The Botnet instantly dies to a single fallen spire city Exo wave even on fallen spire 1/10, granted 4 homeworlds, but that should be close to fallen spire 4/10. I can accept later cities instant killing it, but that early, it should be able to run away without dying even if it can hurt anything in the wave.

Not gets hit and has to run away. If it so much as peaks it nose out under every human forcefield in the game, it just instantly dies.

That not a super weapon. That a glass cannon. I find most golems do the same. Hive and Art and Curse live longer because they are designed to be shoot from the other side of the battle field.

all golems are garbage vs exos. especially botnet which is meant to kill normal fleet ships.

Well...if you leave your superweapon to sit outside and bask in incoming fire, then yeah - no wonder it falls apart. You're meant to give them a good helping of fleet support!

Botnets are very binary (appropriately). They're a hard counter against anything you can reclaim, and totally helpless against stuff you can't (like exos).

The other ones can vary in effectiveness, but none of them are as durable as "superweapon" would suggest. Nothing that a few protector starships can't fix of course. ;)

I normally find Exos have a lot of little ships that can be reclaimed. They are not all MK5 Ships, just a decent amount of them.

Golem are sold as super large units that are very powerful, yet they are less survivable then some Starships. If Golems were like spire craft I would not care, but they are not.

I'm not sure I would say that.

Armored has enough durability (even by golem standards) that it could stand some punishment and probably get out alive, short of being out "golemed" themselves. Heck, I don't think any of the Mk. V starships are more durable than the armored golem (I could be wrong, but I think this is the case).

The artillery golem has sheer base damage on its side, and of course amazing range, giving it use in exos. The cursed golem has amazing range and a good dps, also giving it such use. Both are somewhat fragile though, so you gotta make sure you manage them properly.

Hive golem produces so many drones/wasps/whatever they are called, each with decent dps, that a fully loaded one would actually be a pretty good threat to most exos.

The Hive golem was my favorite until it got nerfed so you can't use them on the AI home planets anymore.  Now I like the cursed golem for its long range and multishot fire.

Hive golems are still not my favorite, but a note from an ongoing co-op game where a subcommander of a mark iv system had four wave counterattack guardposts that all targeted at a player homeworld.

Neinzul Enclave Starship's Drones are not immune to speed boosting.
Hive Golem's Wasps are not immune to speed boosting.
I am specializing in slow Plasma Siege Starships and Neinzul Enclave Starships.
I've unlocked Zenith SpaceTime Manipulators
Do you see where I'm going?

I'm sure there was something about attrition in there, but it couldn't have mattered any when even my Plasma Siege Starships were auto-kiting with 256 speed. Don't even ask how fast the drones and wasps were.

Sadly, my co-op buddy hadn't unlocked logistics command stations, so there was no point in putting up a full cap of zenith spacetime manipulators.

Botnets are fun to use. The others may work well, tough little ships every single one, but the botnet is the only one that makes me laugh like an evil mastermind.
(Insanity inducers make it a little less unique, but still unrivaled in power)

Vs Exos all golems die in a couple of seconds. Including Armored.. that's why 10/10 games with exos aren't winnable without cheese cake.
