Fast & Dangerous Combat Style question

I just went back and took a look at the fast and dangerous combat style because it came up in another thread and was wondering how it actually worked.

I thought that with F&D on, most things happened twice as often leading to a faster game, with resource gathering and construction rates not being affected, but the relative rates stayed the same. By this I mean a combat in normal mode takes 12 seconds, it would take 6 seconds in F&D mode.

However, the actual description reads:

"All ships move and reload 2x as fast and have 2x as much attack power."

Now, with that 2x attack power as well as the 2x as fast reload, I'm reading this to mean that a unit's effective DPS is 4x as much in F&D mode over standard, not 2x as much as I thought it was.

So, how exactly does F&D work?

I'd test this myself, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Do the "100% chance to hit for 1000 damage" that appears on a units pop-up include the hidden 2x modifier for F&D mode?

If it does I could test this, but I'd need an answer on that first.

I take that to mean "Yes, a unit in F&D has an effective DPS 4x that of the same unit in normal mode."

In that case, I just want to note that it's much harder to deep strike in F&D because you only move 2x speed, but you are taking 4x damage.

Not something I think needs changing, I always play with F&D on, but something to mention as it's not something I was actually aware of.

They move twice as fast, and have four times the over time firepower. It makes for a lot faster game, a lot less reaction time but also much more tense.

i use F&D when i have epic defense like tractor turrets or mrk 3 gravity turrets thus they still move at slower speed :D (2) (i haven't tested new update) do you think the ships should be still affected by turrets normal or differently like gravity turrets. tractor you cant help. but it awesome when you get good defense like 5hrs in you then turn FAD on and then sit back while they get 4x pwned :D
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

No they do not.
shots move at a speed of whichever is higher: 20(40?) faster than their target, or whatever their intrinsic bullet speed is.
inclined to believe that yes, shots do move faster

That's a good point.  I believe that's only for targets that are moving, though -- either way, firing from a distance against stationary targets is the same speed, but firing at moving ships that are either fleeing or closing is faster.

with F&D do ship still exit out of worm holes the same speed if it wasn't F&D just asking.

Not sure what you mean.

They might be seen to exit faster because they reach the wormhole they enter faster while in F&D mode, the same for once they are in the exit system.

But the wormhole transit itself would be the same I would expect.

well if it the same then they are taking much more damage then if it was not F&D. because it doesnt look like they do only values can determine if it does D:. well what I'm saying if ships are doing more damage and reload faster thus having them exit at same speed when they exit if it was f&d and if it not. then it causes problems.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

I'm not sure it does.

By design fast and dangerous results in the ships taking 4x the damage for only a 2x increase in movement speeds (and everything else).

Otherwise it would be no different then playing with F&D off and just hitting the + key to increase the simulation speed and not worth being an option in the lobby.

I myself like F&D as it is and always play with it on, but that's the nice thing about AI war, there's so many options you can do what you want with.
