Fallen Spire Exo-Wave Behaviour
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:22:55 am »
Has anyone noticed any non-chase fallen spire exo-wave not to make a beeline for a home planet? Every single one in my games goes to my home planet, and never attempts to take out my spire city stuff (except as passing pot-shots). It seems like the AI should
"mix it up" some.

Mine always follow the same route, and never even go near my Spire City stuff. Sometimes they consist of just two Spirecraft and one starship. I do agree that they should hunt out the Spire stuff, since that's what they're trying to prevent.

(Note:  I have a huge fleet on the one of my three planets that has a city. Perhaps the Exo-Wave knows that it couldn't beat it and is going for the "back door" so to speak.)
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Perhaps it could be like the chase exo-wave logic, a chance some will try to take out Spire cities, and a chance that some will try to take out home planets. Maybe for extra "fun", a chance that some will try to take out a random human planet, or a human planet with something valuable on it (sort of like golem and spirecraft exo-waves).

I usually find that at least one part of the "wave" of spire ships will always take the shortest route to your home command station. Which is why its always the first wormhole I cover with the first spire city i build.

On second thought, strike the waves targeting misc human stuff idea. The fallen spire waves are meant to take out the spire, either directly (through killing spire cities), or slightly less directly (killing the humans facilitating their reconstruction). Harassing the humans (by taking out various other human stuff) is a bit too distant from that goal.

However, I would still like some of the spire exo-waves to go for spire cities in addition to some going for homeworlds.

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought I've seen this behavior. Not consistently, but yes I remember it.
Life is short. Have fun.
