Unable To Utilise Resources

In my current game I am unable to utilise all the metal and crystal resources is there some kind of limit I've reached. If so how do I get round this problem do I need to utilise my space ports more efficiently.

Hi there,

From your description there's not a lot that I can really say, but here are the limits that exist -- hopefully this helps, or if you have some more information then please let me know.

1. You can only build on metal/crystal harvest points on planets that you actually control (so take the planets to get control of them).

2. You can only store up to 300k metal and crystal each.  This is an incentive to actually keep using your income, rather than hoarding it: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Resource_Caps

3. As you build more metal/crystal producers, their efficiency goes down somewhat, but this isn't something that you should be seeing as a really serious effect unless you already have a ton of harvesters:  http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Manufactories

Out of curiosity, did you play through the three basic and one intermediate tutorial?  Anyway, hope this helps!

This is happening in the intermediate tutorial I'm finding that there are free metal and crystal deposits but the option to place on these is highlighted in red with no explanation why. Not sure I'm explaining this very well I will see if I can post a screenshot later.

Are you placing from a zoomed out view or zoomed in? Zoomed out is almost impossible to place harvesters and exoshields, I prefer just to CTRL-click the harvester to build all of them for that planet (planet? It'a a system!!).

You can't build if you don't own the planet with a command station you can't build resources, even with a mobile builder. Check on the galaxy map that the planet is your colour.

I'm also using ctrl-click I will check the ownership issue later but I'm pretty sure I have built command stations.

Perhaps you have a colony ship and haven't converted it yet? Or maybe it hasn't finished converting.

Here is a pic showing 11 unused metal sites and 13 unused crystal sites I can understand the crystal due to reaching the cap of 300,000 but the metal is as you can see in red and unavailable.



Hope someone can help with this it's probably something very simple.

Ah, now I see.  Those other resource spots are not on your current planet.  Ctrl-clicking those buttons only builds all of the ones at the current planet, not at all your planets.  If you go to the galaxy map and hit R, you can quickly see where you are missing resource harvesters.

As an aside, quitch, the planets are both systems and planets.   There is a single planet per system that ships happen to be at, so I kind of use them interchangeably.  You're not the first to call me on it, though.

Fantastic now it makes sense I though it just displayed the current planets resource sites I should have thought due to the number increasing. Oh well now it makes sense and I can play on.
