Exo-Galactic Strike Forces - Where do they spawn?

As the title says, from where do exogalactic strike forces spawn?  Is it the nearest warp gate?  Do the basically function like normal waves aside from having more stuff?

Each armada generally has multiple battlegroups, each of which picks randomly from warp gates near your territory.

Excellent, this makes one of my discarded strategies suddenly viable

Well, exo-galactic wormholes are also warp gates

So if one was crazy enough to destroy every warp gate in the galaxy, would all the spawned units come out at the exo-wormhole or at one of the wormholes connected to that planet then? I guess you'd have to destroy every guard post and AI command station as well to keep them from reinforcing.

My guess is that they'd come out of the exogalactic wormholes themselves.  Event-attacks are a bit different than normal waves in that they don't spawn on wormholes adjacent to warp gates, they come out of the warp gates themselves.

Hmm. Does scorekeeping stop after you win? I don't know if anyone is obsessed with topping leaderboards, but this could make it possible to just clear a galaxy and then group two massive fleets plus looping constructors around the wormholes and leave the game running overnight to get crazy points for killing hundreds of thousands of ships.

My guess is that someone really determined to do so could figure out a way of hacking their score up to whatever max value that data type stores  Probably wouldn't even require much effort, dunno.  It's just not something that's very important in terms of "is the game fun?".

Edit: of course, any sort of attempt to hack the score value (however irrelevant) in multiplayer would fail miserably unless you were simultatneously hacking it on the computers of everyone in the game, because if the game sees a mismatch in score or anything like that it halts the game with a desync message because it thinks something has gone horribly wrong

People are weird when it comes to anything competitive. Although I don't see much discussion of score at all, in fact I didn't even know I was scoring points until the first achievement popped up to tell me I had reached 500,000 points. The game is probably better that way though. I do like a good competitive game and have played many versus style FPS games (not so many RTS games though, they tend to breed players with insane, godlike reflexes and I just don't want to have to train myself to click that fast) but they definitely have a different community. Whereas here you tend to have civil, friendly discourse, if this game contained any sort of PvP I guarantee you would have people wearing their ego on their sleeve and calling others 'noob' left and right. And balance suggestions would be much fewer of the 'here is an interesting idea I had' type and much more of the 'you MUST do it this way; the devs are ruining the game' type. People can be depressing sometimes.

Ah well. I don't need to take and hold that arm of the galaxy anyway.. I'm happy enough owning about half of an 80-planet X map as it is, and up to what I think might be the last capture for the Spire missions...

I love the big Spire ships They go a long way towards resetting the balance between the human side and the AI side, and getting to field 'em was the moment I got to be a Big Damn Hero, which is always my favourite moment in any game

Glad you like them, they're my favorite ships   And yea, a big point of the whole FS thing is to give you an alternate scenario where you can actually stand up against the AI, but you lose a lot of the normal subtlety so it comes after you with big, nasty, pointy fleets   Particularly at the very end of it (or earlier if you play on a higher difficulty, hoo-boy it can get dicey) when the multi-golem groups and whatnot start strolling through.

Yeah, I don't have golems turned on at the moment - I'm not as hardcore as some of the people who play this game! The near-constant flow of core guardians and ships is bad enough for me, thanks

You mean you have TZR off?  That would do it.  But if TZR is on, the golems will come
