escape-key menu not very good for pausing

Apparently, using the escape-key menu isn't a very good way to pause your game - the menu seems to go away after a short while, leaving the game unpaused (so, I went to eat dinner and when I came back there were AI ships all over my home system).

That's probably the new "Gank" AI Type ;)

More seriously, the escape menu doesn't pause it at all, just check the game-second counter in the upper left; you'll want to use P (Pause) for that :)

Not a bug -- the escape key doesn't pause the game for even a short while, as it's not a pause key at all.  This is critical for multiplayer in particular, where you might want to save or look at controls or whatever while the game continues; in fact, in solo play that can even be helpful.  The only way to pause the game is by use of the P key. This is pretty consistent with a lot of RTS games' skirmish modes, from what I've seen, though often they use F10 or F12 for their pause-less menu access.

The problem is that said AI sometimes gets really clever and says "Heh Heh, I won't notify them of this critical crash bug post, and they won't check manually for a while, bwahahaha".
