True, there is no competitive multiplayer in AI War. But this is a thinking man's game much more than SC II is. In fact, AI War is one of the only "thinking" RTS games I know of. It is nice to have a game that requires the player to think but that is not turn-based. Paradox games try to achieve the kind of balance between thinking and action that you guys have, but their games are far too unapproachable and their combat is not nearly as exciting as AI War's is. Both Blizzard and Paradox could learn a lot from AI War.
