What is Firepower?

I could not find a tool tip definition of this, nor did I see an article on the wiki.  What is firepower and how is it determined?

It's still inwork in the beta, but it's an approximation of how dangerous a ship is.  The calculation would be rather useless to you at the moment, as it's still heavily inwork.  But the general idea is that the more damage the ship can do in a 20-second period, the higher the firepower.  And there is weighting for if the ship has a lot of health, too, as that makes it more dangerous, too.
