AI War: Fleet Command soundtrack is now on sale through Amazon!
« on: September 14, 2011, 01:49:41 pm »
In the past few months, I've gotten requests to put the AI War: Fleet Command soundtrack on sale through Amazon because some people don't like or have iTunes. It's now officially on sale through Amazon: http://amzn.to/nsaXKj

The expansion pack music will also be going on sale in the next few months, after we get A Valley Without Wind ready for distribution. The soundtrack for A Valley Without Wind will also be going on sale in the coming months.

Sweet!  I listen to the game ogg files all the time; does the "remastered" mean these are higher bitrate/quality?

Mentioned in the other thread, but I might as well mention it here: happily bought this. Thanks for putting it up there!

These are Remastered from the original files (the ones from the original game 2 years ago). They have 2 new tracks, and are .mp3's which are at a higher bit rate than the .ogg files.

It'll be the same thing for all the other releases as well.

What does remastered mean? literally, I would think it means replacing the original masters. But it's not really clear whether you rerecorded them or.. How does one up convert? I wouldn't think that was possible.

Considering that he's the guy who wrote the music, he has all the original audio, not just the compressed files distributed with the game.  He can create MP3s straight from the original lossless files.

Technically you could also create MP3s with a higher bitrate than the OGG files from the OGG files, but they'd sound worse than the OGG files.  Lossily recompressing lossilly compressed audio always ends up worse than it started, no matter what.  Period.

Yea, I assume it means (in this case, not the literal meaning of the word) doing a new version from the original masters, but with a higher fidelity method since it's not something that has to be shipped with a game or played in one, etc.

And I wonder if that's not the normal meaning of the word; I remember at some point seeing a "Digitally Remastered" box set of the original Star Wars trilogy.  I assume they didn't re-film ;)  I guess someone still had the old reels/tapes?  Of course, they also did some extra post-processing on those, added a big then-modern explosion to the death star scene, etc.  So maybe it just sort of means whatever ;)

In terms of audio, at least, there's a specific definition as to what mastering is, and thus what re-mastering is, and it's a little more involved than just hitting the "convert to MP3" button, or can be.  Most people have no idea what it means, though, especially if they haven't done anything related to audio recording.  I happen to have friends who are recording engineers and stuff like that, and have had a couple things recorded in studios back when I played more music more often, so I'm at least vaguely familiar with the process.

Well that saves me the time of typing precisely the same thing!  :D

God bless (good) sound engineers.
