Electric Shuttle Firing
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:04:13 pm »
Just a question about electric shuttles. Do they still oly fire one at a time, or as a group?

When they fire together, they are quite poweful, but take a great deal of micro to use effectively. When they fire one at a time, I find them to be almost useless, as they cannot keep up with many ships, bar cruisers and tanks, and thier damage is too low to kill enemies.

I use them for wormhole defence when i unlock them, but all I can see that they are good for is dealing a few thousand damage before the enemy is out of range. Chances are they only get one shot as well.

Am I useing them incorrectly or would they be more effective if more fired at once?

They fire in batches, over time.  As wormhole defenders, that tends to make them the most effective because they don't all expend themselves on the first ship that pops through.

so they wait untill the other shoot before they take thier turn in attacking. well if that the case what happen to the payload, can they shoot all at once or is it an mechanic that implimented into the game know>?
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

but is the damage ramped up by other electric shuttles while they are able to fire but are not going to? do they increase damage say by half then have an reloading of half agian>? as it energy stored then released so you dont need to restore the lot?

When electric shuttles could simultaneous-alpha-strike they were extremely, extremely overpowered.  To get the best use of them you had to micro by putting them all in low-power mode until the desired enemy chunk was in the deathzone and then turning them all on; failure to do this could actually lead to the shuttles being significantly underpowered in specific situations.  So the delay was introduced, removing the alpha-strike, the wastage, and the excessive need to micro (they're still something of a "darling" unit in that they shine with proper micro, but they aren't useless without it).

We thought about putting lightning turrets in the same category but decided against it for now.  The questions are quite different for stationary units.
