Once I switched to windowed mode, I discovered that whenever my cursor is out of the window, the game scrolls continuously, based on what direction my cursor is compared to the game window. It doesn't matter if the game is paused or on the 'ESC' menu, it still does this. (And it looks to me like it's doing it even if minimised.)

It's not a huge deal in the sense that there are enough ways to return to a relevant place in the game. I just played one tutorial so far, so I will probably find even more ways. Still, its distracting, and a bit of a time waste (though far as I can tell it shouldn't affect gameplay, since going to the right place is done while the game is paused).

I think it's okay to scroll when the cursor is a little outside the window, because otherwise the scroll region may be too small for comfort in windowed mode, but first of all this should only be done if the game window is in focus, and secondly the distance should be configurable.

There is actually an option in the options to disable edge scrolling, far as I recall.

Yes, there is. I ticked the mouse panning off, but I do like that control and find it limiting to have to use the keyboard. Then again, it's apparently a limitation of Unity and nothing can be done about it.

I get the same thing in "full screen", when I switch to a different window (if I want to search up something on the internet or something). when I look back to AI war again it's on the very "edge" of space. Best way to avoid this is simply going to Galaxy view before switching windows.

Actually, I seem to remember reporting this way back when in the pre-Mantis days.

It might be worth a log on Mantis (if it's not buried deep there somewhere already) to see if there's popular support.

Yeah, this happens. I recall that this started happening after they fixed some other bug with edge scrolling. I don't recall the details, but I know that it was basically one fix or the other, so they fixed the bigger problem. The scrolling away when alt tabbed thing is just something that has to be lived with.  :'(

You don't have to use the keyboard to pan if you disable edge-of-screen panning. Moving the mouse while holding the middle mouse button will pan the screen, much like panning in map software.

Thanks a lot. I was about to suggest that you implement an alternate way to pan with the mouse, so thanks for reading my mind and implementing it in advance. I now configured buttons 3,4 and 5 of my mouse to do middle click so I can use whatever I'll find convenient.

+1

I actually didn't know you could do that.
