Do exo-galactic waves ever reach a cap on intensity?
« on: November 04, 2012, 07:35:40 am »
In my current game (80 planet concentric, 7/7, 2 random ais that ended up being Shield Ninny and something else that doesn't send waves), I have decided to see how many spire cities I can build without being overwhelmed. Seven hours in, I've taken five world, not counting the dyson sphere, and neutered a few others. I plan to play an extremely conservative game until I get the capitol and can start placing cities like there's no tommorow (and if I'm correct on the numbers regarding the AI's response, there might not be). Anyway, is there a cap on how many city hubs can contribute to wave build-up? Also, since each city adds to the intensity and the charge-up time, is it possible in theory to build citie at a rate that keeps th AI always building a wave, but never releasing it?

I would not mind you in my head if you were not so clearly mad.

No.

I don't know off the top of my head where the intercept is, but there should be some interval-between-city-starts below which the AI would never reach exo-release so long as the city-placing continued.  The problem for you is that the interval in question may be about 60 seconds ;)

And eventually you run out of places to put cities, and it's time to pay the piper.

Save for the fact that every time you build a new city, you get an Exo-wave, and my memory seems to say that it is a larger then normal exo-wave. So if I am recalling correctly, you always will end out behind if you try and do that.

Ah, right, the chase-wave.  I was thinking of the announced exos.  The city-building provoked ones are more like the ones that spawn during shard recovery.

So what you're saying is that I would need a ludicrous income and suicidal tendencies to even try?

Bring it on.

In further questions, do FS exo waves ever include golems? Spire fleet ships? Other nasty things that i've only heard of in awed whispers?

My intent is to set the record for Spire cities on an 80 planet map and then perhaps die in the obscene retaliation that will follow, so it'd be nice to know this stuff early.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Y'know, I've played five or six FS 4/10 games, and I've never actually seen a H/K in person. Do I need to bump the minor faction intensity up?

What difficulty did you play them on? H/Ks are practically impossible to force unless you're Diff 8 or higher and chase the Galactic Capitol.
... and then we'll have cake.

It's based on difficulty a lot.

On a 9/9 game of my mine with two hard 4/10 exo factions on, I was facing a MK II H/K after the second exo wave.
Life is short. Have fun.

'A Mark V H/K'? You mean that they come in singles? Every Exo wave that I seen them in has at least 20 of them. Sometimes a lot more of them.

lol yes, H/K's can come solo. In a 7/7 game a while back I encountered one whole mk I H/K (which still managed to destroy a lot). And then the alternate victory from FS triggered about a few dozen more of them mk I and II H/K's on the homeworld.
