Do Beachheads need a rebalance?
« on: June 01, 2013, 05:04:53 am »
I still distinctly recall an AAR that had Beachheads on and was always waiting, waiting for the damn things to actually appear. The rate is something like 10% chance per wave.

Do Beachheads need a rebalance? Maybe a more intelligent logic for when to deploy them?

I actually like playing with them on. The constant fear of having one of them showing up in a wave makes every incoming wave exciting.
Right now, I'm playing a 7/7 round without them and I know my home world is impenetrable. If I had beachheads on, I knew I should at least keep my fleet nearby just in case. The reduced amount of ships accompanying the wave makes it easier for a fleet to defend against it.

I think the only change they need is an intensity slider.

Something like the chance of a beachhead appearing = [intensity*5] sounds Fun. Intensity 10 is a 50% chance of Beachheads appearing. Or, you could double it so that players have the option of getting a 100% chance of beachheads spawning.
