hmm.

why not have knowlege scale with number of planets?

1865/system for 120 planets

2500/system for 80 planets

2815/system for 60 planets

3125/system for 40 planets

3750/system for 20 planets

5000/system for 10 planets

I'm sure its been considered before, but it would solve this problem easily enough

If Chris had a nickel for every time he was asked to scale knowledge to planet count, I'd probably be fulltime by now ;)

But the knowledge-cheat was made granular so that you could simulate that (and the AIP cheat made granular for that side of it; basically the AIP "cost" of knowledge needs to remain constant to have even a slight chance of maintaining balance.

hmm.

why not provide an option to scale knowlege cost with planets? I mean, if its been asked that many times its because that many people would appreciate the feature right? immersion breaking cheats are not the answer  :P

I've directly asked him about that, and he directly said no, and I'm not the first one, so that's kind of it ;)

Well, they are if you want something the CEO doesn't want ;)

back when I played x3tc, cheats were in fact the answer for immersion. If you wanted to design your own custom gamestart, you had two methods - write a gamestart as the game defines it, or choose one of the default ones and cheat things to be the way you want it. In the end, the comprehensive cheat tools available means actually writing up a gamestart was far too much effort.

What I am saying here, is that cheats are in fact the answer. As much as it pains me to say it, its much easier to custom-create your game via chats then campaign for more options >.>
(also, personal limitations were another big thing - if you thought X was overpowered, generally the answer was to not use it)

look , play the game PROPERLY guys and take your time :) takes more brains to play the game , once you take a planet , get the knowledge off it then wait build n attack and repeat ... i might as well use cheats to just build ships on main enemy command centres   :-[ cheats and raiding ruins te game seriously , if i were to rate the game id drop it from my clean outright 10/10 to a 9/10 because of cheats and raiding but no i hope this gets fixed  :'( please developers make it cheat free :)

I honestly thought it was both mainstream and intended - isn't there something about it in the tutorial?

More a question of scale.  You're supposed to brush your teeth once or twice daily, and that is also taught and recommended by society.  When that turns into 20x or 30x per day, that becomes a problem. ;)

Cheats are optional to use - I don't use any other than +100% in the lobby for all players to speed up the game. Some cheats will kill you, not help you. Also using cheats flags the game as a "cheaters game" disqualifying it for ranking.

In an extreme view you could consider having any startup choice a cheat if you compare AI to chess (one start position, one set of units).

Kn-raiding has been nerfed back to what X intended (based on his earlier post) - a slow costly way to recover from a mistake in choosing unlocks, not a core component for winning the game.

Just my opinion on playing within X's vision for his game and the choices he provides us.

If that was done people would put labs at the far end of a sector to bait AI ships ;) We already did this with transports after all ;p

Yea, I'm tempted to have it detect that sort of thing and immediately spawn a 10,000 wave against your homeworld accompanied by the ai taunt "I've got your kite right here" ;)

Edit: but then you guys would just set up some kind of crazy parasite/leech deal and use that check to exploit your way to a 100,000 fleet or something.  And then complain about the framerate ;)

Yes, fortress (and superfortress) modules are definitely planned, and I was about to start in them when the whole desync thing really got ugly, and we're wanting to do an official fairly soon once those clear up so I didn't want to throw a ton of new balancing issues into the mix before that.  It generally takes me about 10 releases to get anything remotely balanced ;)
10 releases. In the first moment it sounds like much, but considering in the time you do 10 releases, most other publishers just manage to write the notes for one release, it still is very impressive.

As always, I am impressed :)
