Did FRD change recently?
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:46:51 pm »
I seem to recall that ships on FRD mode used to chase down enemies, then regroup back at the point that the FRD order was given when the planet was cleared of hostiles. Maybe I'm imagining this. I've noticed it because it's becoming very obvious in my latest game since I have a lot of military comm stations with the new translocation weapons, and a lot of viral shredders. So the enemies get teleported away, and the shredders go after them way out on the outskirts of the planet. Then when those enemies die, they just stay there. So I end up with clumps of viral shredders all around the planet spread out in weird lines. Other ships obviously don't chase as far, but they do end up spread out a bit. Is the return behavior something I imagined, or should I put in a bug report on this?

The return behavior was there, and wasn't intended to be removed.  However, make sure you hold down the alt key to see the little thin lines of the ships relative to their focal points.  Given that you're talking about viral shredders, their focal points are probably wherever they were spawned.  So it might not be a generalized bug, I mean.

Ah yes, I hadn't though of newborn shredders. I'll have to watch the next time a wave comes in and see exactly what's going on.

You can check their focal points with alt at any time, fyi.  Just hold alt and look at the thin lines.

I am noticing the delay you put in their logic, which seems to make fleets on FRD only attack in partial strenght. This however only becomes an issue with really large fleets (seems to become fairly troublesome at fleets of ~600 units and above) but at this stage you should just do a wee bit of micro which works better in this case anyway.

I would think that spawned ships should inherent their parents orders, so as to prevent this.

Post that in Mantis (if it hasn't already) I would vote that suggestion up.
