Dyson spawn, and Ion cannons.
« on: January 23, 2010, 11:45:37 pm »
What dictates the direction of the spawn?

In my previous game they ended up just wandering in one general direction then making a U turn at a junction planet and heading the other way?

And by the way, I think the engine health of the dyson spawn should be infinite. It requires a lot of micro and attention to get the spawn to move. I say this as once the spawn make their way onto a planet with an ion cannon on it, they all get stuck close to the wormhole as the ion cannon has disabled their engines.

And as a side note, is the engine damage on the ion cannon really necessary? Seems it's just there to make it more annoying when you attack with ships out of it's instakill range?

The point of the engine damage was to make the ion cannon useful against higher mk ships.  Otherwise, they do absolutely nothing.

I kinda agree - Not only because dyson spawn seem to be somewhat useless if there is an ion cannon...

They seem to be fairly effective at blockading. I one had 300 or so sitting on a mk3 world with an ion cannon there..

I figured id try to be cool and sneak by (before I made them happy with me... I like awakening the Dyson with a scout before I get there...) and they om nom nomed my entire starship fleet in under 10 seconds....
