If they've got a spare zenith power plant, I don't see why that shouldn't be enough ;)

But we'll see.

"its only one zenith power plant" may be true to folks who have ZR - but not everyone has ZR :). Don't forget that X and team have to take into account people w/ just the base game when making core changes like the Transport ones.
Pfft, its only one zenith power plant, and it makes it easier to get your ships to the target since the transport fleet has more hps too.  Its just alot of micro to get the darned ships split evenly like that :).

Using 20 transports is nowhere near realistic.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

The tactic of using 20 or so and loading a little in each one is definitely alot of micro-management.  Personally speaking, if someone is willing to invest that much time to seperate it all, and has enough energy to build them all, then more power to them.  Personally, I tend to use a couple transports as dummies to soak up some damage, but not 20.  Also, even without a ZPG, if you owned say 10 planets, that is 125k possible energy per planet.  If your smart, and build Econ 3 stations, your resources will not take that big of a hit if you had to activate 2 planets worth of reactors to do it.  I personally also build a mk2 and mk3 reactor on every planet I take over, in case I need extra energy for later on in the game.

Yea, there's some fairly painful micro involved in some of the more advanced transport tactics (and even in the basic one of getting say 1000 ships into 5 transports) that we hope to alleviate at some point.  But I've been saying that for months so don't hold your breath :)

One thing to keep in mind here is that the point isn't to remove the ability of transports to provide interesting tactical options in an offensive actions, just to bring it out of the "always do this" realm into the "usually reasonable tradeoff" realm with the other interesting tactics :)
