I still wish I could reply to News forum articles. Are you sure there isn't a way you can tell the forum to sort by original post date? Then you could have your cake (ordered by news date in the list) and I could eat it too (reply). :(

I don't think there is currently a way to do that in SMF.  The version 2.0 of SMF is coming soon (in the next few months, as I understand it), and has a lot of new features.  Hopefully this will be one of them, or maybe a mod will arise.

Gah, now i want to play Nexus again.. curses!

It's available on Steam. My opinion on Steam is... I avoid it at all cost. It's available at a greater price on Amazon marketplace.

I wonder how it would run on Vista 64-bit on a 2560x1600 screen.

Cheers!

Hah, i own the original box version - in german 2 cds and all that, and i have a backup of those on my NAS and on a seperate DVD - i am already at M07 again (after the destruction of the raptor war station ,p) - Ah.. i forgot how addicting that game was... It has a semi non random dynamic campaign so if you mess up a secondary objective it changes the missions that come later, sometimes VERY drastically. I don't think its possible to win the game without at least winning some secondary objectives.. But to this day i have not seen all possibilities in the campaign - my perfectionist streak causes me to replay missions for 100%

However i don't think the game supports that res - i play on 1280x1024 with 8xAF and 16xAA (game looks stunning anyhow) ,p And it works fine in vista x64 - but what really sets it apart is how brutal the battles are - 4 on 4 ships sounds like a small engagement but its absolutely chaotic (as it should be ) when those ships circle each other and torpedo and missile attacks swirl about.

I don't think i should run a gaming blog - i am very sarcastic ^^

Nexus is a very micro management heavy game though

---

The Witcher is one of the few good RPGs out there, its Mature but the combat is finicky... played through it ,p Its pretty good, for 28$ its a definite must buy.. imo, if you like RPGs

.... Ah  by the way, there are some mods for Nexus and some very good campaigns for it too, the game is fully moddable including new ships/campaigns/missions effects/weapons etc.

There is an SMF mod available for doing this - Custom Board Sort. It's compatible with the current board version and the version 2 release candidates.

It allows sort orders to be set on a per forum basis, one of the options being 'First Post'.

Installing it appears to require a few file edits however.

EDIT: I apologize, it can be installed via the package manager.

I've just installed the mod on a test SMF forum on my own server - works great.

You can see a minimal working example here - http://www.wardbox.com/aiwar/

Hey Rev,

Thanks for that.  The mod looks great, I installed it.  But now I can't see where to actually change it's settings, strangely.  I've made you a full administrator now, since you are part of the official Arcen team now and so involved in the forums I think it only makes sense.  So if you know where to set this up, I'd like the news and articles forums to be sorted by original post date, but other than that I'm cool withe people making responses directly there.

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks!  What settings page are the controls for that under?  I presumed under Boards, Modify, but I saw nothing there.

EDIT:  Nevermind, you already answered that through PM.  Thanks!  ;D

I welcome some references for these mods and campaigns as Amazon's boxed copy is on its way. Not that I will probably get around to it until next year...

I only know of some campaign ;p
http://www.darkspace.de/nexus/download.html

Its probably the only real campaign - all others use the mod system (single missions)

But seriously, the games original campaign is VERY LONG and SUPER HARD (do not play on hard ,p) even without new campaigns.. new conflicts is very cool though - and very hard too.

As for the rest - Moddb has some mods ;p

Nexus is a very micro management heavy game though

Nexus is now on my PC; came home to it waiting for me. Bought it on Amazon Marketplace; turns out it came in from Switzerland (!).

I haven't played much at all (just up to the "Save the Hawking" mission, perhaps #3, still in the tutorial, and I can't seem to save it) but... It's a 2004 game and it's absolutely beautiful. I hacked the registry to get 2560x1600 and turned everything up to max. Really well done. It's amazing how well done games written with modern Direct X and scalable resolutions stand up to the test of time.

I also got the Witcher but haven't played it much either. I have too many games to play, too many books to read, too many movies to watch (District 9 tomorrow night). I think I need to retire to become a professional recreator. :)

Cheers!

(District 9 tomorrow night)

My wife and I just saw that tonight.  I won't say anything to spoil it.  It wasn't quite our thing in the end, but we were both glad we saw it.
