Congratulations Keith!
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:00:24 am »
I decided news of Keith's latest project was worthy of its own thread:

The other major contributor there is that my family's in the last stages before the birth of our third child
Glad the world's future supply of Keiths is assured.
Well, all three are girls so I'm not sure about that.  But the 6-year-old is already using RPGMaker to make games here and there.  We'll see.

On this general note,  Grace Willella LaMothe was born Monday at 9:53am (EST); we've all been doing great and got back home yesterday.  Sleep is a complex operation involving significant planning, but it's working out thus far.

:D :D :D

If I can help it I will never inflict C++ upon a child of mine.  C# is the way ;)

But thanks very much, everyone :)

Congrats! Always fun to bring the new little one home  :)

Now you just need to get your laptop setup next to the glider.  Then you can program the next expansion with one hand while you rock and feed Grace with the other.  What could be better than debugging sleep deprived coding?

But see, that's why you start with C++ (or assembly) --- that way, when they switch to C#, they appreciate it. :D

(Half-serious there --- I have the impression that "what is a reference?" is still a valid weed-out question for programming interviews.)

In full seriousness, congratulations! And best of luck in optimizing your (hectic, I'm sure) sleep schedule!

Assembly, that's fine, particularly as part of early studies of cpu architecture (so they know what a register is, what an adder actually does and how it does it, and so on).

But for C++, my hope is that all I'll have to teach her is:

1) It's the most successful, powerful language I'm aware of.

2) You should never, ever use it.

Congratulations, Keith!
Arcen in Summary:
thank you so much, RNG
It aims to please!

Or is that "to kill"?  Hmm.

Many thanks, everyone :)

So momma can get a headstart on sleep, Gracie is currently in the crib next to me.  She's asleep currently, but I believe she just grunted in your general direction.
