Concerning MiniFortresses

I realize that these are cheap, fairly powerful defenses intended for your "outer rim" planets which you have no turrets to defend (only 1k knowledge?  That's a steal!)

My question is:  What's to prevent you from building them on your inner planets as well?  This is an extremely good defense for just 1k knowledge and which you can put anywhere.

Am I missing something?

The idea is that they have a per-planet cap of 2, making them ideal for using them everywhere.

That was kind of the point.

Oh alright, so basically it's just easier to defend now.

If you want to spend 1K knowledge and a fair bit of energy (see thread on energy for why that matters) supporting them, yes.

There are far more K-efficient ways of getting power in general.

As Keith just ninja'd me on, that energy cost can add up. Sure, 9k may not seem like much, but once you start placing mini-forts on a bunch of planets, you will start straining your energy. That is the deterrent from placing them everywhere.

A better question is:  What's to prevent you from building them on the AI planets bordering all your planets?  :P
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.

Energy costs and alert status.  They're also not THAT bad-ass.  A few MK III Guardians can pop one at whim.
... and then we'll have cake.

I find that they are good enough to take out a random fighter or other AI ship that slipped in, making them nice for clearing up your inner planets. Granted I still need the Spire Att. To take care of anything cloaked, but I certainly like them.

They're great for popping any stuff that slips past but the energy cost can get pretty big, as I've learned the hard way (Especially with multihomeworld games wherein one can place a lot more of them.)
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.
