Community Suggestion Poll Nominations: Week of 1/17/10
« on: January 15, 2010, 07:49:38 pm »
Our first bi-monthly Nomination/Poll process will be starting a couple of days early for the first week. It will run from 1/15 to 1/23. I know that everyone is probably anxious to get this thing moving and get to the actual voting, but I feel it is important for us to keep an easygoing pace with this thing, so that everyone has time to consider their choices and not give X too much information to absorb all at once.

Here are the simple rules for Nomination week:

- One nomination per user, so make it count!
- Include the URL to the nominated suggestion topic in your post.
- You can change your nomination later in the week if you like, but please do so by editing your post, rather than making a new post.

I will compile the list and make the first Poll topic on Sunday, 1/24. It will run until the 30th, after which we will have another Nomination week, etc.  I am tentatively planning on giving each user TWO votes for Poll week (one to use on your own nomination, and one to use on another nomination). If you wish to discuss how many votes each user should get, or any other details of the system, please do so in this topic:
http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3169.0.html

*UPDATED INFO (1/17)*
Nominations that receive the highest amount of votes will be highly considered as DLC in the near future. If a feature is likely to be out-of-scope, it will be tagged as a Bookshelf idea, at which point it will be kept on a running list of content we would like to see in the next expansion (Q4 '10). Please note that we may not know whether or not a suggestion will need to be shelved until after the voting.

*UPDATED INFO (1/20)*
It looks like new features in general are the most in-demand. If something you would like to be in the poll is not represented, try giving it a shout out in this topic: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3288.0.html

Have fun, and take your time with your choices; we have all week!

My nomination doesn't really have a great thread for it, its rebalancing of a few of the less useful special ships(ff, mlrs, mabee anti-armors, anything else people thing is way too good or way too bad post combat triangle swap).

I guess if I had to pick a thread it would be: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3103.0.html though there are other threads for aa and ff's.

Edit:V Worst case I'll collapse most of the main arguments that appear in the other threads into that one.

No problem. Since you have a whole week, you can always make a new thread for exactly what rebalancing you want, and then nominate that. If not, I'll just use that one.

Edit: I just noticed thats your topic, so in that case, use the week to refine/discuss the idea.  :)

I'm sure others will agree with me on this one....It is definately a must

Weather - http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,2704.0.html

Just so you know -- 0% chance of stuff like that this month, because it's way out of scope as far as the amount of time it would take versus the amount of time I have for AI War beyond bugfix/balance tweaks.  We're talking about various small tweaks and fixes, and a few new ships, not large new subsystems.  That's stuff for an expansion, basically.

Go for it -- I'm not trying to stomp on anyone's wishes, but I also want to make sure that people aren't perpetually voting for stuff that's out of scope until the next expansion.  Figured it's better for people to have an idea of what is feasible.

Maybe what we can do, if an "out of scope" idea is a popular one, or wins the voting, we can put it on a special community "Bookshelf" list of ideas for future consideration/implementation. That should be easier on you than having to step in and let us know what ideas arent worth voting on.

Nice one Hellish.  :)

In the spirit of not nominating one's own suggestion (one should not be able to nominate one's self) this week I'll prop this rather splendid idea...

The Concentric / Spiral Circles map idea.  (I can't find anything on this board anymore.)

The idea is not nominate everyone elses, it is to nominate what you really think would add to the game. And the reason why we post stuff in the suggestion section is because we think it will add to the game.
What's the point of that?!  If you suggested it then you already consider it to be worthy.  If someone else has to prop up your idea then you've already got two interested which equates to another degree of chaff sifting.  But, never mind.  Let chaos reign!  :)

Weather is a good idea but already shelved due to being rather involved.

Allied AI.

I'm not going to post on the feasibility of every last suggestion or anything -- most of these are great and quite potentially viable, anyway -- but this is even more out of scope than the weather.  I've said in the past that this wouldn't come until a future expansion, if then, and that hasn't changed.  Of course, if a lot of people are in support of this feature, that will make it more likely to come in the next expansion, but I don't know that this thread needs to try to handle that sort of thing as well as shorter-term nominations.

It's just to put it out there--though I'm speaking of only the Allied AI (not the various gametypes posted at the bottom).

Otherwise, I guess http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,2736.0.html (deathmatch survival gametype)--a rather easy-in-theory implementation.

Sometimes, Spikey, I do wonder if you want to play AI War at all.  You seem to be looking for another kind of RTS experience much more in line with SupCom (et al).  Nowt wrong with that, SupCom is rather fabulous in its own way; I just wish my machine was fast enough to run it in the end-game phase.   ::)
