Community DLC Suggestion Poll: Week of 5/2/10

Community DLC voting for the week is now underway!

The nominations that receive high amounts of votes will receive higher consideration to be DLC in the near future. If a particular piece of content is likely to be out-of-scope for the near future, it will be kept on a list of content we would like to see in the next expansion (Q4 '10). Please note that we may not know whether or not a suggestion will need to be shelved until after the voting.  Also bear in mind that this is Chris/x4000's game and inclusion of any content is ultimately his decision!

The voting will last one week. The next nomination topic will begin on the 9th.

Hey guys, sorry for consistently getting these out late, and for more or less dropping off the face of the earth lately (except to post these topics), but I recently got a promotion at work, and taking care of my new position is taking priority right now! AI War is still dear to me though, and hopefully once things settle down, I'll be back and more involved in the community.  :)

Thanks very much to y'all for keeping these going.  We devs have been slower on our end of this too for a number of reasons (Tidalis is a pretty big priority right now), but we really value the input from this and as we get time these polls are a primary source for answering the question "so what do I do now?".

I've got to ask this, I'm interested in the flak turrets, but the thread eventually meandered into people wanting it to do various things, so I'm a little confused as to how it would be implemented if it were selected.  I'm a bit skeptical, as High Damage and AoE are very dangerous things to combine, but having a turret that acts as a counter to melee ship and infiltrator fleets is a tempting prospect.

Well, that discussion is still going, but my intent is that it would be low damage and relatively low range, but pretty effective against vampires and the like.  Basically it wouldn't do squat against space tanks (much less starships) but would shred cutlasses and the like.  Kinda like the Riot-control role, but for those pesky engine-damage-immune melee ships.  The AOE would just be to handle the load, and to fit the theme.

MLRS and a few other types do a decent job against cutlass, iirc, but you need them en-mass when you hit late game and have 1000+ cutlasses in a single wave (i think my record was actually closer to 2k in a single wave, which was pretty crazy, but a superfortress combined with tons of MLRS turrets and other turrets shredded them :D )

Flak looks awesome! It'll be at least half a month before I'm able to fine-tune my own idea like that! Besides, flak is just awesome. say it. Flak. keep saying it, til you begin to wonder about what exactly flak is.

Well thats not really fair, I have to vote for both boosting fortress and modular fortresses!  The thread was just kind of the catch-all "buff fortresses" thread, don't particularly care how its done, thought modular fortresses sounds pretty cool there were some other cool ones there as well  :P.  But whatever as long as something happens to them  ;D

The flak is an AoE weapon that is meant to deal high damage like a grenade. If I understand its topic correectly, the suggestee wants the flak turrets to be super effective on melee units and units that can roam through shields, like infiltrators, Vamps, and cutlasses. Because those units swarm in close-knit groups, flak makes a great last turret wall to have in and around a forcefield.

With that said, I looked at this list of suggestions, and like them all.

I think the fortress needs a HP boost regardless of it getting voted in, 4.5 million hp comes apart much too quickly
