Community DLC Suggestion Poll Nominations: Week of 3/14/10
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:05:08 pm »
Here are the simple rules for Nomination week:

- One nomination per user, per week!
- Include the URL to the nominated suggestion topic in your post.
- You can change your nomination later in the week if you like.
- You may re-nominate a suggestion from a previous poll*.

If possible, please format your nomination like this:
(nomination name) - (nomination URL) (user name)

Nominations will be compiled into the next poll on the 21st.

*If re-nominating a suggestion from a previous week, there are no restrictions on doing so, but you should keep the results in mind when making your selection.
Here is the link to the previous poll: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4251.0.html
Here is a link to the ongoing poll results topic: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3651.0.html

Important info: The nominations that receive high amounts of votes will receive higher consideration to be DLC in the near future. If a particular piece of content is likely to be out-of-scope for the near future, it will be kept on a list of content we would like to see in the next expansion (Q4 '10). Please note that we may not know whether or not a suggestion will need to be shelved until after the voting.  Also bear in mind that this is Chris/x4000's game and inclusion of any content is ultimately his decision!

Thanks for your participation!

Nominations:

Construction Templates - http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,4032.0.html Black

Set a template for whatever group of buildings you'd like to build, place that template wherever you want it built.

Would be super for building up fixed wormhole defenses, and if the templates were done in such a way that they could be shared, we could share the files here on the forum to try out a variety of defensive combinations.

Would remove all of the tedium from building fixed defenses, and let you concentrate on more interesting decisions.

Ability to gift resources to players - http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3899.0.html

We were amazed that after so much attention was given to the co-op side of AI War, that you cannot just click on your metal or crystal on the top bar, click a players name on a drop-down, and enter an amount to give them.

Generally that's handled by gifting the resource collectors, iirc.

If another player needs ships, do you gift them ships or a shipyard?  There are times when you urgently need far more resources than extractors can provide.  Gifting extractors is not intuitive.

Not particularly intuitive, no, and you aren't the first one to ask, it just hasn't been done in the past since gifting extractors was sufficient for most cases.  How well it does in the poll may impact that, though Chris is the one who knows all the reasons it hasn't been done yet.

Another thing to note is that excess resource income (that would put you over the 600,000 cap) is distributed to allies who are below cap.  At least, that's what I remember.

you cant just cause a massive income for a second for the receiving player and a massive outgo for a second for the sending player equal to the amount being gifted?

Well, we can, but it would probably involve significantly more special case code than other possible solutions.

It would probably just be a new GameCommand the execution of which does the necessary subtraction and addition, but we'd probably need new UI elements for selecting the player, the resource, and the amount.

To be fair, it was a very specific situation where we needed it - We had underestimated how pissed off the AI would get when we popped a certain station, unleashing the best part of 2000 core ships on our very worried-looking galaxy.  We were planning to meet the swarm in a system a few jumps away, building defences like crazy.  The problem was, our guy with the heavy defensive techs unlocked was a tad short of crystal, having just built a fleet to kick over the furniture in the system bordering the AI's homeworld.

Our engineers assisted as much as they could, but we got nothing but red engineering lines for our efforts.  Shadow could have gifted one of us a heavy beam cannon IV, but none of us had enough crystal to build the thing alone.

- EDIT -

Getting late, cant spell

Ah, that situation does make sense.  Very specific, yes, but important.  2000 core ships require drastic measures ;)  The IV-cannon would have helped, but even it has finite power.

Well, I'll be happy to give it a look at some point, just got a list of stuff to work on for now, including endgame deviousness and the previous poll results.

There are a ton of great suggestions here that I am unable to decide amongst them (like usual).
