Armored Missile
« on: November 21, 2009, 01:38:26 am »
I'm trying to figure out what exactly the Armored missile is useful for at this point. It has  only the same damage as a lightning missile and causes a massive increase in progress...
Avid League player and apparently back from the dead!

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

Oh, wait... *causation loop detonates*

Same thing. Standard Missiles always seemed enough to get to my targets alive (with a diversion if needed), 50 AI Progress is way too much for these armored missiles.

And EMP missiles also cost too much progression ;)

As for armored.. i have found no use for them - since missiles don't have view they are 1 sector fire-and-forget weapons, thus 600k HP is more than enough to get there (i have never seen a lightning missile die before it hit its target)

I would be for revamping that entire progression penalty system - instead of progression missiles should have a chance of triggering all units on a planet to attack you, before detonation that is.  :D

The idea of the armored missile is that it is a deep-strike weapon, which lets you attack any enemy target (that you can "get eyes on" through other means) with impunity, but with then incurring an AI Progress cost.  The mechanic, I think, is sound, though the amount of damage it deals maybe should be quadrupled or something.  It's still not something that would ever be that commonly used, and that's by design, but it's meant to be one of those "weapons of last resort" sort of things.

Except for the nuke i like this idea. Though this might be exploitable: Build ~6 Ligthning missiles send two through the wormhole and use the rest to annilihate the masses that subsequently spill through the wormhole (or that mass on the other side) and - voila - a cleaned out planet without AI progression.... also you could just clena out planets with masses of lightning missiles (if your economy supports that, that is)

Well it would be the simple matter of making missiles not explode when they are destroyed by enemy fire ;)

Though i agree it might be too much of an exploit.. ah well ;p
