I'm starting to feel like a very old timer having started at 1.004 or 5 (don't remember).
I understand the sentiment, so much has changed in that time! But that got me back thinking to all the past alpha versions that came before, and how much the game has really changed over time. So, I thought it would be fun to post a super, super, early version of the game -- don't get too excited, it really is an early prototype more than anything else.
Version 0.65 has a working lobby, some in-game working controls, (mostly) working networking, and a main menu. The only way to kill the application at that stage was to Alt-F4 it, just to warn you. And also, it was a TBS game, not an RTS game. This version comes from November 19, 2008 -- eight days after I first started coding the game. It was the 62nd version in SVN, I'm not sure where I got the 0.65 from.
Just goes to show you what months and months of hard work and constant refinement can do for you -- although I'm pretty proud of having it at this state after just a little more than a week. My alpha group was playing it in place of other RTS games after around a month of development, possibly less than that actually.
Note: this one also used Managed DirectX instead of SlimDX, and a different network library from what the current game uses. So if something bombs out, don't complain -- fixed in one of the 740 SVN versions that have come since this version 62.
