Champion Ships and multiplayer

I've never played multiplayer with a champion ship and I'm asking myself how this works out.
if you select to be champion ship only, are you "out" if your champion ship is destroyed?
Or can you somehow continue until every human home command station is destroyed?

Champions respawn.  Homeworld death is still the "game over, man, game over!" factor.

Where does champion ships respawn? At a home command station at random?

At your ally's home command and that never changes.
