Cannot advance past "Knowledge Stealing" tutorial
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:36:18 pm »
hey folks,

Being a bit of a pest with my newbie questions.  I have been playing the intermediate tutorial and cannot advance past the Knowledge Stealing part.  This is a part where you destroy an Ion cannon and then send all of your Research labs to the planet (enemy controlled yet) to steal knowledge.  Well, I got rid of the cannon and have stolen all of the knowledge available on the planet.  All my labs (4 of them) are listed as "Exhausted".

The trouble is I don't know how much longer the tutorial is.  If it's a section or two longer, then no big deal.  But if there's a lot more to it I'd like to play through it to the end...

Hey there, no worries.  You're on step 17 our of 24 with the Intermediate tutorial, and there is definitely some good stuff remaining after where you are.

With the knowledge stealing, it wants you to have at least one science lab on the planet that it mentions in the text for that to be completable.  It must be a science lab 1, not science lab 2, I don't know if that is the problem you are running up against.  And also, I'd make sure that it's the correct planet you have your labs at, of course. ;)

If that doesn't help, can you save and upload your savegame so that I can check it out?

Funny - I just updated to v 1.009 and I can now proceed past this point.  I'll just smile this one away then!

Actually -- in 1.009, I updated it so that it now allows for either Mark I or Mark II science labs.  So I imagine that was the issue for you, then. :)

When the tutorial was originally designed, Mark II science labs didn't exist, and I didn't think to go back and account for their existence in that tutorial until you brought it up.  Thanks!

Well - I am pleased to say that I finished up and won in the intermediate campaign!  Going after the final AI base was much more difficult than anything else and taught me the value of higher mk ships.  I came in with 1,500 or so mk 1 and mk 2 and had them wiped out after only eroding the AI base by 2%.  I built up a mk3 bomber and a mk4 anti-armor and started building those out.  It really wasn't until I started sending these units out that I started to break through.  Even then, it took a lot of time.

Great tutorial, by-the-way.

Great job!  And, thanks! :)
