I've a friend whom I used to play a few strategy titles way back with. Now I'm trying to get him to play some AI War with me. I've bought the Steam Bundle, but he hasn't.

Can we test multiplayer with him using the Trial version?

Yes, you can. I've done it before.

You may need to disable expansion content in the game you play with him.

It's been a while since I did exactly this myself, but if I remember right you're gonna have 3 hours per game no matter the list of expansions you have enabled. The majority of bonus ships will be unavailable (and some other things too) but this is still enough to get a good idea, and if you put the difficulty low you might be able to get a win too!
