Several quenstions after first gameplay with hybrids
« on: May 13, 2012, 02:38:24 am »
Hi!
After yesterday gamepaly I have several questions, if you find them stupid just ignore them.
(I way playing against 7/9 with 1/2 waves, hard golems, adv hybrids, z. trainders, dyson and neinzul persv wardens).
1) When dyson sphere starts sending gatlings? I always thought that until you destroy enemy command center Dyson is quiet, but in last game gatlings were fighting with Neinzul Preservation Wardens.
2) Are hybrids interfering with exo waves? I played first time with hard golems, so I don't know how exactly exo waves work, but every wave time counter got to 100% I had a message "defensive hybrids are mobilizing" and hybrids attack.  Also during 8hrs gameplay I had one wave with golem, other were small dispersed fleed attacking me from different directions. It's quite different from description
3) After some time trades got stuck in one star system and refused to move further. In attached save they are sitting in Oriama star system (in top, right quarter of map). It's save from the end of game (you can move to second home system and release wasps ;) ), but traders didn't move for more then hour. Is it normal?
4) two suggestions, I posted then here:

In the current beta the Dyson has a bug where it doesn't spawn very many gatlings. :(

Exo Waves come in several "flavors".  Each has a lead ship and a bunch of escorts and they go straight for your home command station.  But sometimes it dumps a ton of points into the lead ship (and you get a golem...or worse).  The super-big lead ship is pretty uncommon.  Still other times an Exo will be split into several mini-Exos that attack from multiple places.  And on top of all that, sometimes they pick some other target beside your home command station, typically something irreplaceable (Factory IV, one of your golems).

1) Dyson sphere normally spawn hostile-to-all gatlings, *until* you kill the AI command. They start doing this either at the start of the game or when you first detect the sphere. They'll happily fight preservation wardens.

2) "Defensive Hybrids are mobilising" indicates that the hybrids that are on planetary defence tasks have been given potential attack orders, which can make them attack (hopefully in time with the actual Exo wave). They won't interfere with the Exo code itself, IIRC.

3) Don't know, haven't checked... this is probably not normal.

That not right, you need to have a ship on the planet, like a scout, before they start to spawn. If you play with no fog of war you can see that quite easy by looking at the world. As soon as you get a ship on the planet they start to spawn and not a minute before that. I normally like to send a MK4 scout starship over to sit on the world until I can get a MK1 scout Starship to just live on the world safely.

I believe that the AI homeworlds (and player homeworlds aswell) are used in the path calculation for the trader. If you had one AI destroyed and the other one almost dead, if might have confused the trader because it could not calculate a new path.

I'm not 100% sure, but I remember a patch note from quite a while back about the trader's pathing logic getting changed to something like this.

Actually the patch note was that it no longer cares about home planets or whether a planet is human or AI owned at all. All planets have an equal chance of being a waypoint for the traders (though depending on map structure, some planets may see traders more often due to them being in a good path to many other planets)
