Can I has more Astro Trains?
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:55:54 am »
So I love Astro Trains (even though they can be annoying). Any chance you could make it possible to change the difficulty of the Astro Trains AI Plot? Like you did for the minor factions and hybrids etc. 1 = Very few Astro Trains. 10 = Tons of Astro Trains. I'd love to play vs 2 Astro Train AIs and set the Astro Train AI Plot difficulty to 10  8)

PS: Oh and thanks for patching and updating AI War! You guys made it even better even though it was absolutely awesome already! Gj.

Isn't there a trainmaster AI type?

I am more interested in seeing astro train number scale with AI difficulty and AIP.
The only things the astro trains really damage are the mines, and these have become very cheap recently.

They pose some threat maybe a few hours in game at most. Later you can completely ignore them - they deal minimal damage, and its not very common for a train to appear in an important large battle to mess it up.
Plus, since they are not ever replaced, their numbers diminish slowly, as you can just harass them with your fleet whenever a train passes by your idle fleet, and the trains cant repair.

Also, the role of train stations/rerouting is not important enough right now, as even clearing the nearest stations may still result in trains passing through your system when going between distant stations. I wish there was some sort of way to see the train routes and get some idea how they can be rerouted.
Hell, it would be awesome to be able to hack train stations and manually modify the routing related to the given station.

Yes, it would be interesting if trains could be used by both sides to their advantage.

Yeah there is. But would be awesome to have the option of having a lot of Astro Trains with other AI types too.

Yeah good point!

Why not both? Right now, exo-waves are affected by AIP, AI difficulty, AND minor faction scale. Astro trains could do something similar. And the trainmaster AI would have a further boost on top of all that.

About the only thing Astro Trains do is make it more time consuming to do cloaking raids.  I really want to see them reworked completely.

I agree that astro trains need some chunky work to make them really interesting, but this sort of suggestion would a relatively simple change that would be good for the short term until AI War becomes the focus again.
