Du hast recht was das Forschungsschiff angeht, mein Fehler. Streichen wir das ....

Bei der Fabrik ist es so, das es sowieso die einzige ist die man erobern kann, da es gar keine anderen Fabriken zum erobern gibt.

Ja, aber I'm Englischen ist das genauso: x4000 hat das eine advanced factory genannt. Ich finde dann sollten wir es auch bei "fortschrittliche Fabrik" lassen. Was meinen die anderen? Sollen wir mal x4000 fragen, ob er was dagegen hat wenn hier der Sinn geändert wird?^^

Ich finde nur das Fortschrittlich redundant ist, da es eben nur die eine Fabrik gibt die man erobern kann. Es ist völlig Latte ob die fortschrittlich ist oder nicht; es ist der einzige Ort um bessere Schiffe zu bauen.

IMHO.

X-4000,

do you have a problem with the changing from advanced factory to just factory ?

Well, I think it does alter the meaning rather substantially.  These aren't just regular factories -- which the space docks basically are -- but rather are "super factories/docks" that create only very advanced ships.  If another meaning beyond "advanced" would be preferably in german, I would suggest either perhaps Factory IV, or SuperFactory, or something else that indicates that this is an unusually high-tech factory.

I don't know if there is already an answer out there:

What is the minumum resolution this game must run on? Some tooltips exceed my screen (1680x1050) and I cannot insert line breaks becuase the line is for example at the bottom of the screen.

The minimum resolution is 1024x768, although players have been able to run it on 800x600.

The tooltips should all preferably be no wider than 700px wide if at all possible (this is true in almost all cases in the English version).  In the German version at present, these are the missing newlines I was referring to.  You can add in as many newlines as you want without problem, and it will automatically size the window higher to make those fit.  That's exactly the largest problem with the current German translation, I think, as it makes the game absolutely unplayable on 1024x768 even.

How about experimental manufacturing ?

Experimentalfertigung ?

The only thing that then worries me is that we have "Experimental Fabricators" in the expansion.  Not that the expansion is being translated here, but it might cause issues down the road.

OK, I can see that.

Its just that " Fortschrittliche Fabrik " is a language monster. Just IMHO, of course ....

It´s awkward and clumsy.

But it´s not THAT important OTOH .... ;D

Well, I'm not suggesting that Fortschrittliche Fabrik is the only way to go.  I think an alternative to that could be great, if you think so -- but my point is more about not using overlapping wording with something that already exists.

Some comments..

I first saw the thread of Cydonia and thought the translation was something of a community project... then it would have been great. However, if the translation is from the publisher, its ok, but could be better. There are a few sentences with wrong grammar (just had a look to main.xml, there are also a few glitches in the story).

I wrote a few suggestions for the ship.xml file in Cydonias thread, partly the sentences will be shorter :-).

I just got myself a nice red wine and will play through the German tutorial now.

Well, I'm not suggesting that Fortschrittliche Fabrik is the only way to go.  I think an alternative to that could be great

Alternatives

Fabrik
Hi-Tech Fabrik ;)
Experimental Fabrik = Prototyp-Schmiede = Geheim Fabrik

Shipyard is easy = Schiffswerft / ADV Factory is a adv shipyard, also Hi-Tech Schiffswerft, Prototyp Schiffswerft sind alles möglichkeiten ;)

Auch wäre Labor und Prototyp Labor ne Idee... neija.. ist nicht alles so einfach da der Platz net ausreicht ;p

Black Projects Lab (vlt zu unbekannt)
Skunkworks Lab (wieviele Leute kennen Skunkworks?)

Just some more ideas thrown in the arena ;)

Ok: Finished the tutorial section of the main menu:

This is the section of the main.xml which looks ok in an 1024*768 window. Especially, the TutorialHeader had to be shortened, the translation was way too long. The direct translation to English is now: "AI War is a very special real time strategy game. These tutorials will help you to get along. Notice the basics:

Especially the last sentence had to be cut a little bit, there is definitely not enough space in the TutorialHeader box fpr a direct translation.

EDIT: I incorporated the changes into the main.xml, attached at the end of the thread (in a few moments..)

Drumlin,

finished the main.xml but I didn't see your proposals in time. No I don't want to continue anymore, at least for now. ;D

take a look at this thread to get the news for the finished main.xml

...Now...I never realized German uses SO much more words to say something..

I only managed to do the first  Tutorial. The tutorialsteps is attached.  With the noted exception, I changed very little at the translation (the tutorial translation is very good!), only removed a few unnecessary fill-words, and sometimes created two shorter sentences out of one very long one.

The ß looks a little bit strange in the game font.

Exception:

<ln id="Bas_1Wel_3">. Here, the german translations translated back to english as "In RTS games, similar to chess, you are represented by all your ships in the game.

I dont think this is what X400 meant.

Now, the translations reads: "In RTS games, similar to chess, you are not represented by any ship in the game"

One more problem is with step <ln id="Bas_Priority_1".
The German translation is so long, and I do not want to cut the translation too much, that the planet where you have to click one is below the text. Still possible, but a little bit confusing. Would have been better if the enemy planet was in the lower part of the map.

Ok, would be good if somebody could check the tutorial whether I created mistakes.
