Bug: the forcefield that would not die
« on: August 05, 2009, 03:56:14 am »
Yesterday I was destroying a level III forcefield with a cruiser force. At the end (after a lot of time), a bug manifested itself:
- the cruisers would fire a bunch of missiles (exactly enough to kill the forcefield)
- in the mean time, the forcefield regenerated a little bit
- the missiles did not kill the forcefield because it had slightly more life than anticipated
- the forcefield regenerated some more
- and then the cruisers would fire a bunch of missiles (exactly enough to kill the forcefield)

To end it, I had to bring in some bombers, as they do so much damage with one bomb to negate this regeneration.

Very good point.  For the upcoming 1.013K release, which should fix this:

The overkill model has now been updated so that ships will still fire at enemy ships if the incoming shots will do less overkill than 2x the strength of the firing ship.  This will cause 1 or 2 wasted overkill shots in a lot of battles, but will also solve a lot of the other overkill-related problems.
