I'm not sure how assured it is anymore with the recent changes. I'm only guessing. :) 8 is a bit rowdy. The first game waves are 150-250 ships per AI, without mad bomber or sledge even. That's at 10 AIP.

The basic rules are pretty much:

1) Overwhelming firepower always

Tonight if I play any AIW I'm just going to be trying a couple things for early-game or giving the ship changes a quick runthrough post-patch. I'm not going to be doing this until more of the bonus ships get a balance pass.

Yeah, finding your new level with the recent changes makes perfect sense. I'd like to see that twin 10's game though.  ;D

FYI, I don't know if 4.047 is coming out tonight, I'm guessing not.

I shot you a PM about it, I would love to see you how you do it ;p

Suzera that's an interesting comment you made about scouting. I would feel like I'm cheating if I turned on all planets visible.

3k knowledge = the map is entirely scouted in a little while right now for the most part, barring a few exceptions.

I'm trying to put a test fraps of a test game start on youtube, but it's taking forever...

I play with a completely unrevealed map, and scouting costs me vastly more than just 3k knowledge. Dozens of transports, tons of scout rebuilds, and a large amount of time and attention all go into information gathering. It's one of the parts of the game I most enjoy, actually.

I just build lots of mk3 scouts and they pretty much just go do it.

Going to attempt using Justin.tv here in a bit and run the early game as a test. Just the first 10-20 minutes or so. If anyone misses that and wants to see it, it should save in the history.

http://www.justin.tv/suzera

I kinda screwed up a bit on the one I frapsed sooo I didn't really want to upload it anyway.

Have you tried it under 4.0? All I know is that doesn't work for me anymore at all. I find I have to transport them, have to carefully path them, and generally have to spend a fair bit of time managing where they go and how they get there. Even given that I'd say I build several dozen caps of mark 3 scouts in the space of charting a given 80 planet map.

Hmm looks like you need to take a lot more planets you missed a few in your path there. Just a joke. Impressive low-progress play that's how I do it too

EDIT: Wow you have a really well-thought out strategy much better than mine. Micro skills are very good

More music. More monsters. More to explore. More AI War.

All done for the night, atrocities committed:

1) Scrapping mk 4 or 5 ion cannons for instant 999k/999k earlygame to save myself 5-10 minutes
2) Scrapping a bunch of Counterspies for 80k/80k because they're not doing anything for me and are exposed for the most part
3) Lots of powerplant micro
4) Not letting AI shredders hit anything

To do:

1) 3 more planets on the economy conquer list, at least (which should go a lot faster now that by the time I blow up a planet I have full replacements)
2) Get mk 3 bombers
3) Gate raid to get myself down to 1 link for real
4) Data centers and ARS
5) Factory gen (the factories are in really bad spots to use so more just for the generator)
6) Establish beachhead two steps from each AI HW
7) Prep AI HWs to die
8) BOOM!

Current game time mark is 3:05:00ish. I suspect it will be over around the 5 hour mark at this rate, but that's mainly a guess. It could be up to 6. It's probably not getting anywhere near 7. One of the AI is a defensive type (driller) so I shouldn't have too much trouble defending. Drills are great economy too. The game will be significantly harder if this patch comes out in the middle though because the AI has Bombards. Defense will get a lot less hassley though because they do have eyebots. Just about to second midgame now.

Edit: 8 and ) just happens to turn into 8)

It is up in regular video form now too. The actual video length just happens to be about the same length as my playtime. It got cut into 3 segments though...

If anyone is wondering why I always have a bunch of knowledge laying around unused, it's because I am pretending I unlocked tachyon mk 3, because it's bugged to be fully unlocked at the start.

Diff 8 is pretty fun. I had t ostep down to 7.6 when I was testing the Spire stuff. The multi golem waves were getting the best of me at diff 8 before som changes was made.

Now tho, I am sure I could give even the spire a nice run again on diff 8.

Would be interetsing ti see ohter players strategies on how they win. I think my own strategy is good as well since I ma generally able to pull a win, but it mihg tneed som improvement time-wise.

Suzera, what ship did you unlock at start?  The video's a bit too blurry for me to make it out.

Just as a note, I think XFire allows for video recording at high resolutions.  I recall watching some stuff like that from other players, but they were shortish videos.

Cool stuff, though!
