Bringing up Scorched Earth AI again
« on: September 24, 2010, 05:25:08 am »
They were mentioned and talked about along side of supply, but I will start a new one to
make it more clear and easier to assemble new thoughts and ideas.

So, one of my AI personality happens to be the scorched earth (started on random personality).
My current map (realistic hub 80) is divided in large two sections and some path between them.

Currently, I'm stuck at one small corner of the map. Planets having connection to path lanes are
all SE AI planets. Other side of map is the main body of the map consisting of 65 planets.
I've got only 3 available planets to be captured out of 80 planets.
Is this mean automatic restart the game hoping I don't pick SE? And also if I pick one,
    another path is made available?

I came to think taking away supply availability from planet seems to bringing some
    broken situation.

Scorched Earth AI is alternating the premise of the base game it self by making some path unusable.
(Well many many paths which could very much mean dead end)
(there exist scorched earth method in reality now and then but if it comes to apply to a game
with limited path system, it must be carefully applied)

Removing of SE AI seems desirable from my point of view (or given the option to be able to exclude at game setup)
unless non game mechanism/balance breaking solution becomes available.

Are there any work around am I missing?

    ___ may be ...
Deploy-able mobile colony station which will provide supply at planet less location.
They build really long time to build, 30 minutes?, and fair amount of resource. (few 100k s)
Any AI will target these structures once deployed, and adds hefty AI progress if destroyed.
They seems to be pretty care asking piece.

    EDIT:typo correction

use transports to hop your ships past up to 3 undesirable systems

There actually is such an option, you create a text file and put it in the game folder, but now I cannot find the thread, where keith explains what to call it and what to write in it.  So someone else, please help colonyan with this.

Those transports comes handy at many many situations.
Currently, however, I'm utterly cornered on the entire map that system hop
will so much good but won't probably solve the er... my problem.
Or is it possible to create separate independent supply chains which not connected?
(I could test that easily...)

Oh, thank you for your attention.

I thought SE was bringing too much impact on the game. Scorching resource base is
useful method but its not like space-time it self is destroyed, thus there could be one way or
other to reestablish supply link.

Yes, all you need to do is to use a colony ship to build a command station on an un-nuked planet, and it will provide supply to all adjacent un-nuked planets (that don't have a co-processor, etc).  To get an un-nuked planet, take it from the AI that's not Scorched Earth :)

If you somehow get BOTH AIs as Scorched Earth, then you're in trouble ;)

Okay, I found it. Look in your game folder, there is a file called 'disabledaitypes.txt', open it, and do what it says :)

Ooo, thanks everyone.
Now it make sense. There could be separate independent supply system on the same map.
Ca marche!
I could also exclude SE if it happens to be both are SE. ;D
(maybe game code should set its prevented by default unless wicked masochistic person want to do it! ;D)

Heh.

I've actually gone and deliberately started a game with both AI's as scorched earth just to say I did.

I'm not actually stuck (yet) but I'm only a couple hours in......

Waiting to do an after action report until I get further into the game or when I drop the game as not workable.

The game play is a little different.  ;)

I think his problem is that in the half of his map that he started on every planet is Scorched Earth except for 3.  He has nowhere to colonize.
