Bomber Mark3s
« on: August 27, 2009, 03:51:01 pm »
So, I've had the "pleasure" of fighting bomber mark 3s, and I noticed something. Their shield values are huge. Nothing I can field even hits them. Everything that isn't missile based has a 5% chance or worse of hitting them (even T3 fighters only have a 30% chance). Even raid starships, which are supposed to be good against them (as per the +98% tooltip) can't touch them at T3, though they slice through T1 and 2 like they're made of soft butter.

Are they supposed to go from "well, they're good solid ships" at tier2, to "unkillable machines of base-destruction" at tier3?

Yeah, this was originally partly modeled on the bombers in SupCom to be honest, which did much the same thing.  Then as they evolved, they kind of kept that jump -- which is really important when it's you with the bombers, for stuff like force fields and the like.  Cruisers and other longer-range ships are the quick cure for this.  The other reason for this high shielding is that it makes them very dangerous and effective on raids (against you or by you).

In the case of Raid Starships, those might take a really long time to kill bombers, but the bombers won't do much damage to them.  The Spire starships and dreadnoughts ought to do a much better job against bombers in general, sprite especially.  Also deflector drones and other long-range high-powered stuff like that.
