Availability on Steam
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:56:40 pm »
Can I install Ancient Shadows on  Steam  if I pre-order from GamersGate?

If not, will it be available to buy from Steam? I haven't seen anything on this and would like to continue to use Steam for it

Yes and no.

No, because Steam does not recognize the key for Ancient Shadows (yet).
Yes, because Steam isn't required to unlock the content.

The answer confused me some. If I buy from GamersGate,  presumably they'll send me a key code for the expansion, correct? If so can I then run the expansion if even Steam doesn't recognize it yet. through Steam?

I downloaded the Expansion files from Arcen.

All you'd have to do is install the expansion and enter the key in-game and it'll work just as expected. You'll still even run the same AI War game from steam. Only difference is, your money doesn't go through valve specifically.

That said, for anyone else who wonders, the expansion WILL be available on Steam on the 19th.

What about syncing Arcen-bought keys with Steam?
Is that a yes, a yes (but like AVWW), or no? :p

I suppose it's going to be one of those Valve things. "Yeah, likely, but we don't know, and it could take months."

Previous ones worked, and Valve has been consistent with them. They were slow with AVWW but got it in the end.

This is actually the best answer I can give.

CoN was slowest with achievements iirc (only came in with LotS?), rather than keys, but it's all good either way (with it working regardless via in-game register).  Speaking of which (thread-jack apologies!) will Shadows include more achievements?
