Autocannon Minipod Shot Sound Effect

The Autocannon Minipod sound effect has severe clipping at the beginning and end of the sound effect.

It's not clipping, not unless your version is messed up -- that's just the sound effect.

Yeah, I decoded the ogg and it sounded okay alone but in-game, along with all the other sounds, it does clip quick nastily when it plays.  Might be local, dunno.

Hmm, that is really odd.  All of the files are clipping for you in the game?  I don't hear that at all.  Maybe an audio driver thing, I don't know.  Though I will say this -- the sound effects are played over top of each other sometimes, perhaps what you are hearing is several autocannon shots overlapping by a few ms each, or something like that?

Sounds local. Try turning the master volume down on your computer? If that doesn't help, it could be a driver or hardware issue. I've also noticed things like this are far more likely to happen if youre using digital sound output instead of analog.

Just that sample.  All others are fine.  It's clipping alright.  I'm not new to making sound effects for games and this kind of clipping is typical of starting a wave form with significantly more than zero amplitude.  It only happens when there are lots of other effects going on and loud 'crack' of the clipping is clear above all.  No issues with any other game, or any other sound effect.  I've replaced it with another effect and no issue.  Minor point, easy to fix, just wondered if other ppl were hearing it.

Possibly the issue is that the sample is very short.  Sometimes DirectSound has some issues with that.  Most likely we will replace this sample at some point in the future, but I suspect that's what the issue is on your machine at the moment, at any rate.

Well, some setups are more prone to clipping than others. Yours might be resistant to it but just vulnerable enough to where a bunch of overlapping autocannon sounds might trigger it. Sure the problem could be fixed by altering the sound effect, but it's really something that probably fixable in your setup.
