Auto-target carriers control
« on: February 05, 2012, 05:07:46 pm »
So, let me get this right. When the upcoming control auto-target carriers is off, your ships and turrets will never auto-target carriers? Even if there is nothing else in the system? Even if that carrier is chipping away at the command station? Even if the carrier is chipping away at your home command station?

I interpreted that as when auto-target is off that carriers would be the lowest priority target, so your fleet would run off and chase that lone fighter that got translocated rather than the carrier about to head to your home planet :)

No, it means they won't auto target it at all.  As another change notes, a carrier that is on a hostile planet with enemies present and less than 500 AI ships will automatically deploy, so your defenses will always have something to shoot at until all the carriers are gone.

The toggle is because the "should it be autotargeted?" question had no clear answer before the invincibility mechanic was added, and we got a lot of reports of frustration from players who wanted them to be autotargeted (and then frustration from the other side when we changed it).  If we wind up not needing the toggle, then great, but we'll see :)
