Auto-Explore methods
« on: February 10, 2012, 08:08:00 am »
I don't know half a thing about how exactly Auto-Explore works; but is there a way to make a group of scouts NOT split up while auto-exing? I like not having to micro them every step of the way, and A-E seems to handle things relatively well...but it keeps splitting the Scouts up into smaller groups, which then get picked off a lot more easily than a single, larger group.

Any halp?

Auto-explore is for when you want them to fan out.  If you don't want them to fan out, just use the normal orders and tell them where you want them to go :)

If folks really want a "focused auto explore" CTRLS toggle, I can make one... but, really?

Not really. The only scouts that really have the durability to "group move around" are Mk. III scouts, and even then you won't get that far.

Though, sometimes it would be nice to instead of going for scouting breadth, go for scouting depth, you can usually get that done by just telling your group of scouts where to go manually.

I really like using a Mk4 Scout Starship, so I would like an option that basically has it moving between worlds. I don't mind dropping scouts on my front boarders, but I would like a way for a ship that the AI can't even know about to just head the the planet that was last scouted the longest ago endlessly, so that my intel for them does not get too far out of date.

A scout order that will continue scouting after all planets have been scouted, that sounds interesting.

All I want is a hotkey to auto-scrap all but the lowest mark scout in the system, with no confirmation.

I'd like that option, yes, specifically for auto-scout picketing.

Scout picketing, of course. The is where you would really start seeing the difference between depth first scout vs. breadth first scout.

Actually, it would be nice if there was a way to automate one scout peeling off per world when scouting through multiple worlds.

I thought that's what picketing *was*.
... and then we'll have cake.

That's certainly what I tried for.  The scouts don't try to stay together and peel off one at a time, though, they just all pick a destination that needs a scout picket and doesn't have one.

I think the problem is you need to make sure a still *cloaked* scout heads for the border.  It doesn't seem to work when traversing areas with tachyon guardians.

Seriously now. I want scouts to head for scouting depth, not breaking up their group, not picketing or pocketing. Just going as far as they can. And when one scouting run as ended in a certain system, then I want them to automatically pick another direction on their next attempt.

That is all. Feasibility is not my domain  :o
