If they are made invulnerable they will lose the appeal of slowly killing them as they travel and annoy you.
Doing that now is simply impractical - and I can easily accept the risk that my turrets will fire at train if it comes before the wave.
And during it it should be easy to make them last on targeting lists so thats not a problem.

And 400m hp is not that much.. they move so it means they are not that susceptible to lances tho.

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure the actual way it works is:
- there is a set number of  convoys in a game
- spawn a whole convoy whenever a convoy contains 0 trains

Therefore, the proper method of handling trains is to destroy all but one irrelevant train per convoy, and then astrotrains will cease to have any impact at all on the game.

I seem to remember the last time there was a discussion one of the wiki contributors had obtained good info and updated the wiki with it.

400 million is easily dealt with with a bunch of ships and turrets.  With just a force of 2000 (including the fallen spire stuff) I can kill a train pretty easily assuming I focus on it.  In that station on Murdoch there's a train station I use to kill off trains... and having photon lance-based weaponry hit trains isn't difficult if you know the path they are taking or if they're sitting still

Astro Trains have been more of a nuisance (mostly since I have to micro-attack them) in my game than ever a threat, running at 4/10.  Nothing has ever been finished when it comes to construction..
I dunno, Astro Trains feel absolutely useless.  I don't plan to include them in any of my future runs since the train stations they go to they don't really do anything.  The biggest train I've seen has been 3 in size and whenever they get bigger my ships attack a piece of it since it's doing something mean

I stopped you there, because as much as I love the FS plot, (Ever since I figured it out I've never turned it off) those ships make killing ANYTHING easy. There is a reason the AI is terrified of the idea of humanity and the Spire working together. You remove the Spire capitol ships from the equation and killing 400 million HP is a lot harder. Hell, without golems or caps of starships 400 million hp is a pain to deal with. And with certain combinations of trains in a convoy, nearly impossible with just fleetships.
