How does one separate certain ships when they are in a big blob?

Ok when I start out I build my ships along with scouts and it seems they all go to the same place after being built. So now I have this one big blob of ships,. So how do I go about separating certain ships? For ex: Say I want to use bombers or say my scouts what is the easiest way to find them and pull them out of the big mass of ships? How do you guys do it?

The bar on the right-hand side of the planet screen which lists all the ships is clickable. Click an icon to choose all of that type, shift-click to do additive selections of other types and alt-click to remove a ship class. Then you can use l and other the other fancy command options in the 10-page command list to modify your selection.

as you select units on the bottom right hand side of the screen you will see a list of ships currently selected. To remove these ships from blob press alt left click the type of unit you want to remove.

This can be applied planet wide as well, use the ship list on the right hand of the screen to do so.

Also, if you wish to add more ships to the blob, use shift instead

alt + click to remove ships
double click an x mark ship to select all of them
triple click an x mark ship to select all marks of that ship

Pressing L will cut the selection in half (minimum 1).
I think holding N and a number (eg "N3") will then cause selection boxes and clicking to only select units of that mark level (e.g. mk3)

I use a Azerty keyboard... is there an easy way to not have me to push Shift + N + 1 . I need to do that cause numbers are capitals on my Keyboard.
