Are human ships manned or unmanned?
« on: April 24, 2015, 02:17:45 am »
Are the ships controlled by the player (human ships) manned or unmanned? What about the ones that were based off alien technology. Just asking out of curiosities sake!

Can't really wait to try out the alternate endings after I get to 7/7. Been busy the last couple of days so I haven't gotten to play for a little bit, this game is too addicting! :P

Edit: Also is there any lore for the game universe that isn't said ingame? If so know anywhere where I can find it?

Human ships are unmanned, with possible exceptions (e.g., colony ships.)

Zenith ships I believe were confirmed to be organic, smaller lifeforms all of their own. The big Golems are fully-grown Zenith aliens, while smaller creatures such as Gatlings and fleetships are smaller creatures that have formed a symbiotic relationship with the Zenith.

Spire ships are a similar story, crystalline life-forms. I don't know if that holds true for all Spire fleetships or just the ones you get from Asteroids or cities and outposts in Fallen Spire.

Neinzul are also living ships. Seems to be a common theme.

I may be wrong. Don't quote me on anything.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Zenith Golems are empty shells that used to be mature Zenith beings. Humans can "re-cable" these dead bodies and use them as weapons. Yap, it's kind of necromancy.

Spire ships are a similar story, crystalline life-forms. I don't know if that holds true for all Spire fleetships or just the ones you get from Asteroids or cities and outposts in Fallen Spire.
Zenith starship and Spire starships are human models inspired from Z/S technology, so they are not Z/S beings in any way. However, it's unclear if Z/S fleetships are cloned Z/S beings or also inspired human/AI models.

We got to wait for Arcen's staff to publish SBR and remember they have other games on their board! :P
(I'm joking, I know they're super-busy with SBR and are doing their best to make it as amazing as we expect it to be. At least as amazing.)

The alternate endings are much easier on easier difficulties. ESPECIALLY Fallen Spire or Ancient Shadows. If you're just looking to see the content, don't do 7/7, you'll have enough problems with the 120 planet maps you'll need to get at the AS stuff.

The opening crawl for AI War mentions that the humans still have some loyal AI subroutines, all the turrets and (probably) most of the fleetcraft are automated. Not sure about that though since Mercenaries are a thing, unless they're selling you the tech.

Alien races are an interesting case since they're all a living ship of some kind. Neinzul are the most obvious, but Zenith vessels are Zenith entities, and Spire tech crosses over with Spire biology in more than a few places. We know they're alive, but whether they're piloted...

Check the SBR forums. It's set in the same universe as AI War. They're where much of the above info comes from.

It is? Does that mean it will feature humans? Also it seems to be in the same universe as TLF so that must mean TLF is in the same universe as well. All the more reason to pick it up  later when I need another game :P

Technically speaking, SBR, TLF and AIW are in the same universe. However, TLF and AIW have no race in common, and SBR take races from both AIW and TLF plus some more. So most of the lore from TLF and AIW remain true, but the opposite isn't necessary true. And there is no direct link between TLF and AIW because the choice to link them in the same universe in SBR was decided after the release of TLF (and AIW, of course).

While I'm thinking about this... Having Thoraxians (for example) Minor Faction in AIWar or some Zenith Remnants (for example again) in TLF would be awesome! Something discrete not wreaking the balance or the lore of these games, but just winks for the fans of the whole Arcen series.

All the lore from SBR is true for AI War and TLF, but it might not have happened yet.

And there's really no point to having Thoraxians in AI War, they're nothing special in space combat (plus they're trapped in the Hydral system). If you want to feel the horror just activate Hybrids.

I think he's more talking about them put in as sort of an easter egg. Typically an easter egg can be taken as a non-canon nod to some other media of some sort.

I was saying "it would be cool to have a minor faction in AI War with a race from another Arcen game". Thoraxians was an example and I wasn't speaking of something as hidden as an easter egg.

This is my opinion, you are allowed to disagree.

I was thinking about this subject as well since I've been playing AI War even while other games are buzzing around lately, and considering how many ships we lose, especially on such vehicles as scouts, I'm glad we aren't sending people on all those ships!  :o

Maybe there will be an TFL Mini Expansion in the future, we might never know. Would be cool, also because it underlines the fact that both games happen in the same universe. However, Chris said that the solar system of TFL and dthe galaxy of AI War are absurdly far away from each other,e xplaining why stuff that happens there does not affect the other area and vice versa.
But there might be a hint that it MIGHT happen in TFL:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Did you complete Federation Mode? Well, Hydral leaves the solar system after his accomplishment, hinting that he might travel to other galaxies. Since Hydrals live for an absurd amount of tie he does not need an FTL to reach the AI War galaxy, he will be old when he reaches it, but he will probably live. What could his role be there? Does he want to unite our galaxy like in TFL?

Too late. The AI did it first. In under a month.
