Arcen Games will be Closed 7/17 through 7/26.
« on: July 16, 2009, 11:34:29 am »
I'm going to be out of town during this time period (unexpectedly -- until today I had thought my trip wasn't going to be for another week), so there won't be any development work or other changes happening during that time.  I won't have access to my development workstation during that time, so the 1.011 release won't be happening until later, the week of the 27th, and it's likely to be a lot smaller than usual.  Then after that week, we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming, so to speak.

I'll also be very much less of a presence via these boards and email, but I will have some access and will respond to those things that seem to be urgent.  In the meantime, if you have questions, feel free to ask because there are a lot of experienced players here who are probably happy to help you.

If everyone wouldn't mind holding on to their new suggestions until after I get back, though, that would make things a lot easier to sort out -- unless you want to just discuss it with other players to codify the design, or whatever.

There's no hard and fast rules here, but the main takeaway is that I'm going to be away for a bit.  The 1.010 version of the game, which will be coming out today, seems wonderfully stable and functional at this stage, so hopefully we won't have much in the way of issues there (knock on wood).

Okay, I'm back!  I'll still be slower on the draw through Monday, most likely, but I'm here and should have at least a little prerelease sometime later today.  Thanks for keeping an eye on things while I was away! :)

Hey!

No coming back early! LEAVE!!! We have better things to do than deal with an obsessed developer. Like, play a game which has the same rules for more than a day!

True. And, if it were anything else, I probably wouldn't. (I'm over my "bleeding edge" days.) But, I've already smoked the X crack, and there ain't no goin' back!!!

I have been afraid to ask in the past, but...

What in the world possessed you to go by "x4000" anyway?

Cheers!

It's been my handle for about 10 years now, something like that.  I'm a (currently on hold) aspiring novelist, have been since I was around 14, and one of my books was something of an Ayn Rand knockoff with fantasy stylings, in which the main characters all have serial numbers.  I thought it was original, but I was about 15 at the time (and mistaken).

Anyway, the hero's name was x-3oo3, and his nemesis was x-4000.  At some point I needed a good handle, around 1998 (I had been using the name Tavis Blunt, which I did not find out the drug-related connotations of until belatedly), and for some reason I thought a scary-ish villain's name would be good.  So x-4000 popped to mind, and it stuck, and has taken on completely other meaning for me and others in the 11 years since.
